The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Perhaps we are trying to say something similar but there is a part missing from your statement: A player only gets a full season of service time if he starts the season in the majors and is not optioned to the minors or released during the entire season.

The player that gets sent to the minors a month into the season only gets a month of service time. That has been the norm.

Now I get a shorter season means a multiplier of sorts gets utilized to convert shorter service time periods into a full season calculation but the idea of no games played means a full season of service time gets credited to players is ridiculous.
Agreed. I don't see cancelling the entire season. But I also don't want the season extended either. Playing games in domes or I Puerto Rico in Novembe is ridiculous. Play what they can and that's it. It's an odd and imperfect season any way you do it.

If they try to pull off the full season of service without games, teams could only give 26 players that (aka their opening roster) everyone else doesnt get any time. I dont think the owners would be okay with this at all will the players union would love it. They will have to compromise in the end if this really does happen (the whole no season thing)

Don't read anything into who is being optioned right now. Doing this to strategically hold onto people as long as possible with all the uncertainty about when/how the season picks back up.

I agree with this one and expected this to kind of happen if we lost a certain amount of time. We still need to move down two more to get everything to 26. (My guess is Bauers and Allen, while keeping Naquin in the 26 man roster).

Once the season official start date is confirmed then they will move guys around in due time. Like if it starts sooner rather than later, guys like Carrasco, Naquin, Clase will all get DL stints and then guys will get a call up to fix the roster. If its later then maybe those guys will be healthy and after everyone gets into a routine they will call them all up.

just wow:

the deal, MLB has the right to shorten the 2020 draft to five rounds, sources tell ESPN. Additionally, it can delay the start of the international signing period to as late as January 2021.

Makes some sense that if we’re stuck in our houses in July and no amatuer games are played, five rounds is reasonable for the info teams have right now. With two months of amateur competition before a July draft, maybe 10 rounds makes more sense for both sides.

So Mookie Betts could become a free agent without playing a single game for the #Dodgers, but the clubs also won't have to extend long-term contracts a year longer,

The corona virus outbreaks in Italy and Spain have theoretically been traced to one soccer game with a crowd of 49,000.

The game was played before the extent of the pandemic was known.

I have a hard time believing that there are gonna be any MLB games played before mid summer at least...and am becoming even pessimistic about that time frame. Every crowd would be a theoretical incubator.

If the studies though are correct the more humid and hot it gets the least it will spread, but that's off fo early studies. Since China is technically back in action, I believe we will play sometime this year, just hard to say exactly when but likely 80-100 games and nothing more unless we put in a lot of double headers.

Until we have a vaccine this is going to ebb and flow. I wouldn't be surprised if a restarted season gets interrupted.

The answer, to me, is playing games with no fans at times. It sucks and it'd be weird, but a lot of fans follow baseball on TV anyhow and at least games would be played.

Hey, us older fans are used to that anyway. It'd be just like a Tribe game in September during the early 90's (the only way there were 3,000 fans at some of those games was if you were counting ears instead of heads), or a Cavs game during the Stepien era.

I think this is an option, but still risky. It's still a gathering of 50+ people, not including support staff. The Latino players who may have left the states have to come back. The Chinese Taipei players and Japanese players have to come back. Teams still have to travel- packed in a tin can. I can still see obstacles into restarting and staying going while the pandemic continues.
