BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What were his numbers (from an advanced stats POV) like in 2015 and 2018? Those look like the only years he and JJ Watt were fully healthy. I would assume that Watt would have gotten the double teams those years, but maybe I'm wrong.

Iirc from watching clowney on the Texans they had him lined up all over the place. Even at mlb. He wasn’t always asked to rush the passer.

Wouldn't hate that if he fell far enough. Always good to have a project third string QB.

I despise project qbs. Especially in the early rounds. It’s a waste of a pick that could be a starter. 6th or 7th round sure take the project guy. But not in the 3rd or 4th. We have too many needs and those rounds still produce starters. We still need guards and LBs.

Guards?

Also, Hurts is probably going to end up in the 2nd round at this point.

Yeah,
I’m totally against drafting any QB after the first two rounds for what it’s worth.

A total waste of a draft pick in the vast majority of cases.

Yeah, let's pass on the McCoys and Kesslers and instead go for the Weedens, Manziels, Kizers, and Quinns.

I just think the concept of "developing" a quarterback drafted in the middle to late rounds to eventually become a starter is basically a complete myth.

I would much rather use a 3rd-4th-5th rounder on a different position that actually has a chance to see rotation snaps at some point than someone who is almost assuredly only going to be a backup.

You laugh, but Weeden played in the NFL well into his 30s!

I'm still torn as to which Weeden moment was more embarrassing:

A (which, ironically, is only the second most embarrassing moment of Weeden's life that involved an American flag):

It's sad to think that the bar of success for Browns' QBs is "don't ever throw an interception like this one," yet here we are.

I agree with this point usually. The one exception would be if the QB has other skills that can make him more of a Swiss army knife -- a Kordell or Antwaan Randel-El. I think a good offensive mind like Stefanski could have some fun with a player like that on the roster. But I suspect Hurts will be gone well before the part of the draft where such a selection makes sense.

At that point, though, I imagine there is a gadget wide-receiver that probably projects as a bigger near-term contributor.

Q: How inept does a franchise have to be to draft a QB that old in the first round?

A: Inept enough to also draft a RB 3rd overall in the same draft.

Possibly. I'm just saying that "QB who can also run or split outside and be a credible threat" is the one place where I might be tempted to use a later-round pick on a QB ... because the value is not simply as a QB.

Especially since the cba changed practice times and reps, the developmental guy just doesnt get the same time to practice as they did in the past.
