Sign Clay Matthews III

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't understand the sentiment behind signing a player just to retire here, when he never even played here in the first place.

And yes, I know his dad did. But he didn't.

His dad was my favorite player, yet i dont understand it either

Browns should have drafted him back in 2009. Would have been a great core building block for the team. Not saying Alex Mack was a bust, but the Browns did let him walk for a compensatory pick. He certainly didn't end up being a building block here.

But signing CM3 as a free agent in 2020? Introduces an expensive, past his prime, not quite fitting big ego player to a team that doesn't need that. And for what? Fan service? Fan service is like having unprotected sex with someone you know has STDs. Feels good for a second, but totally not worth the anxiety, disruption to existing relationships, or the time lost chasing health issues. Look at the latest Star Wars trilogy if you want to see where fan service gets you.

Not a good fit. Loved Dad though.
Season tickets since 77 and he was one of the best.

Are there any other Mathews great grand kids, One of Bruce's grand kids?

Bruce has two other sons, one who has played in the NFL and one who is a sophomore at Texas A&M. He's the only one left from the two brothers Bruce and Clay. I think the next oldest is Clay III's child, but I could be wrong.

Its already a stupid amount of family that has played in the NFL, all under Clay Sr. I think 7 total, 2 sons, and 4 grandsons although one of the grandsons only made a practice squad, ironically the Browns.

Bruce is a HOFer, I think Clay III makes it? Personally Clay II belongs there, but I am extremely biased. If Clay IV makes it or any from that generation, that is just insane. I guess we will see in about 10-15 years or so.

Edit. Luke Mathews is the youngest son of Bruce who is a 4 star recruit lineman at Texas A&M going into his sophmore season, he has a shot at the NFL to make number 8

Further Troy Nicklas played in the NFL and is the son of Bruce's Wife's Sister, so a nephew but not by blood.

So Luke is the next one up, crazy, if you want your grandkid to play in the NFL, convince your daughter to marry a Mathews.

William "Clay" Matthews Sr. was an original member of the 49ers who missed a big part of his prime serving in the military. He should be in the HOF just for his super human gene pool.

Hope he’s ok. Jesus.

My understanding is the fuck you sauce is kind of salty.

Clay is a football player. He can play in any defensive scheme. Browns need veteran depth and leadership at the linebacker position. Perfect fit for young guys to learn from.

He's too old, too slow, and not a good system fit. Good character and his name are about the only things that fit in with what Berry wants to accomplish. I think roster spots are to valuable to give away for a locker room presence that doesn't fit our scheme well.
