The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Now a minimum cap is something you could catch the players attention with. But good luck on the management side for that one. However, the floor is the problem for the disparity not the top end.

I just figured having that minimum floor would get journeyman type of players more money. I mean if a team is like 10 mil under and a player is worth 5-7 mil in free agency, you could see him getting a little more just so teams could get to that cap.

I haven't figured out how incentive contracts would work with a hard cap, maybe you could make the hard cap be to base salaries and if players have incentives the teams could go over the hard cap, maybe?

There is a lot that could be done, and honestly I expect this next CBA to take longer than normal since the players union wants the players to get power over their contracts sooner in the process.

I think revenue sharing on a "large scale" is not realistic.

Think about it this way. The big bucks in owning a sports franchise is the capital gains. Buy the Yanks for 100 million and watch it climb to 100 billion. But that can only be achieved by having a revenue stream and brand that supports the value. If you start forcing "sharing" of that revenue stream, you set up a disincentive to ownership. Not sure how you get agreement by owners to that one on a "large scale".
By rallying the small market owners around that idea? Which seems to be the majority of teams.

Derek/ B-Man,

Just an FYI but Jup is the guy that clued everyone to the Bauer deal a few hours before it broke publicly. Heck some have even accused Jup of being ol Trevor Bauer himself. While I do not believe he is TB, I can say he is VERY knowledgeable on pitching philosophies & many many aspects of baseball. IIRC he even had some insights into Cookies situation last season soon after he took leave from the team. To Jup's credit he would only speak in generalities until Cookie & the Tribe fully announced what what going on.

I love following and participating in great baseball discussions & having Jup around as part of that is benefit to all..

Bernie knows its Shane.
As for his copy editor, I would not be so sure..
At least it wasn't listed as Justin...
It would be funny if the corrected version had 'Shawn' replaced with 'Not Justin'

That's the take away from this "fluff" bernie pleskoff piece of garbage?.. Bieber's first name?..

It's easy to see... so many people are really missing baseball.. BTW>. the Korean Baseball games.. aren't bad in an "any port in a storm" kind of way.. The streak games on STO.. are really very exciting..

What did you expect the takeaway to be? :chuckle:

On an aside, I finished reading The Inside Game this morning. A very good read if you're interested in examining your own thought processes and the biases we all inherently hold.

This should be interesting

So if you are chosen in the 5th round, and you are facing college or a $20K signing bonus cap, how much does that depress your price to sign for the teams offering price ???

I suspect we will see some significant bargains (for teams that is) in the draft and subsequent free agent pool this year. No doubt players $$$'s SUFFER BIG TIME.

I really felt they should have done ten rounds mostly because players usually within the first ten have a legit chance to make it to the pros.

To me it sounds like a lot of college seniors/older college kids will be able to sign with anyone they want this off season. Most of the high school seniors will go to college if not taken, so honestly next season should make for some really good college ball cause of a lot more influx of talent than before, but i could be wrong there. I would just advise any non drafted high school senior to go to college so they can get drafted since most of the time that will earn them more money than signing with a team.
