Top 8 Sitcom Characters

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Plenty of comedians say whatever they want and don't get in any trouble for it. Daniel Tosh, for example.

I agree, but TOSH.O couldn't exist on a network because of that and is on comedy central....she got in trouble because the show is on ABC and they were hypercensitive.

Look, Tosh is funny, Roseanne usually is not, not my favorite comedian, but you have big issues if you start calling a woman with her history racist....she didn't fight it because she is rich and doesn't care, but she isn't a racist, she is just an old, outdated, bad comic.

To be honest, I don't even remember what Roseanne even got fired for and I don't care enough to look it up.

I was just commenting that it's blatantly untrue that comedians can't be real comedians any more. Most of them have no problem, provided they are actually funny. I listen to the How Did This Get Made podcast every week and Jason Mantzoukas says some absolutely horrible things, but it works because he's really funny. Hell, Larry David's whole shtick is being an asshole and everyone loves him.

I try to separate writing from character design. Frasier was incredibly well-written and one of my favorite sitcoms of all-time, but Frasier Crane doesn't crack the top 20 of my list. I think Niles is a better character. Basically, these are icons that either became tropes because of their success, or are icons that writers wish they came up with because they were such good characters that would be successful regardless of writing.

Kramer
George Costanza
Schmidt (New Girl)
Winston Bishop (also New Girl)
Michael Scott
Tim Taylor
Eric Matthews (Boy Meets World)

And then for entirely different reason, Topanga, also from Boy Meets World.

But Larry David's best friend on the show is black and while he says some ridiculous things about race to him on the show, it is under the guidance of questions or things like that and the JB Smooth character usually agrees....and yes it is hilarious and on HBO, not ABC.

The comment was horrible, making fun of a black woman's looks who was an advisor to Obama.....relooking it was worse than I remember, maybe she deserved to be fired for being fucking stupid....the quote was "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”

I am sorry, I am not easily offended, but wow.....I need to back off, that was horrible.

PS, I am not changing the beginning of the post, want you guys to see my thoughts in real time and went back and looked. That wasn't an ok statement 20 years ago.

The one character that no one seems to have listed unless I somehow missed it is Sargent Schultz. The rest of the names I was considering listing have pretty much already been mentioned.

"I see Nothing." :chuckle:

Roseanne isn't racist, her humor was bad, but we live in a world of craziness where comedians cant be real comedians anymore.

fair enough. Regardless, her character definitely belongs in every top 8

Schmidt and Winston are so incredibly underrated.

Radar O'Riley and Ohio favorite son Max Klinger..

Somebody didn't watch Nick at Nite as a kid
Was The Odd Couple on Nick at Nite? For me, it wasn't. Maybe it was on at different times than when I watched.

I remember Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie and I Love Lucy dominating the Nick at Nite lineup. I think Get Smart was on there as well occasionally. I think Happy Days and The Archie Griffin Show were on like ABC during the morning/day on weekends?
