LeMelo Ball Scouting: Discuss

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Given his lack of tape from this past year, Wiseman and his camp are really trying to push the narrative that he's a do it all kind of big. He's out there talking about watching Giannis, and he has people saying he can shoot from anywhere.

I like Wiseman but he ain't no Giannis.

Gotta take him if you can. Can’t teach that feel for the game. Can’t teach height. Shooting can and will improve. He can work the refs like Trae Young. Also plays defense like Trae but at least he’s way taller. Not too many guys that can control the game while they’re in there but I think Ball has that potential for sure.

Why should we believe this when he's never actually shot the ball well at any level?

I really like LaMelo's game, I'm just not sure of his personality. He's flashy and fun to watch, but I wonder if he will develop into a winning player. Is he going to develop into a guy who's going to make good decisions on and off the floor, is this a guy you'd be comfortable giving the keys to the franchise to? Those are the questions I have with LaMelo and I don't have the answers. I think he comes with a lot of risk. He kinda reminds me of Jason Williams, he was really fun, but didn't become a winning player until the tail end of his career. LaMelo has more to work with though, I'd have to be convinced that he could develop into a good leader and winning player to take him top 3. He kinda seems like he's going to bring drama wherever he goes, I'd rather let somebody else take him.

I’ve tried to ignore it but the typo in the title is really gnawing away at my ocd please fix

right some people don't realize he was named after Carmelo and hes from LA
"my name is Lamelo from the city of angels -offense is all I do"
LE Melo is someone from France who takes naps all day in the orange groves

I'm not going to lie - I didn't watch a hell of a lot of him during his limited time down here in Australia. But the two things I can tell you:

a) Buddy of mine works for the NBL (National Basketball League of Australia). He says the entire league's digital analytics spiked exponentially as a result of all LaMelo-related content and the engagement they saw for anything and everything LaMelo was like nothing they'd experienced before.

b) By my own observation, I almost never see anybody rocking an NBL team jersey - but during the season, I saw a "Ball - Hawks" almost every other week in public.

At this point in our rebuild and given there aren't many better-suited, positional prospects available at the top of the draft, I'm definitely not opposed to picking the one guy that can help bring some interest and economic influence back to the Cavs. While "fit" is important, I'm sure the Cavs are also mindful of the financial implications, the brand association and the ability to further promote their intercontinental reach with a player as crafty and as charismatic as LaMelo.

The big story in this clip is his improved physique. If he gets the strength and mass his big brother added as a pro, he can defend more positions. He's on the table for the Cavs pick because of that potential, IMO.

I still hate the fact we see clips with trick dunks in an empty gym rather than a clip of him crushing shot after shot without a hitch in his shot.

im not worried about his physique. There’s tons of players who come in way too skinny and fill out. That’s the last thing I’m worried about with him.

I hear you, I am just glad he improved something while not playing. My preference is fixing his broken jump shot, but he is working on something.

I'm still worried about his legs. His upper body looks to be filling out, but his legs still look like a 13yr old. His brother has leg issues, and I think Melo might, too. Until they get the years of their day "training" them out of their system, i think its gonna continue to be a concern.

The flip side of that is the worry he wouldn't be happy playing his career in Cleveland, and would be angling for a more glamorous media hub as soon as he could.
