2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't hate the comparison qualitatively, but quantitatively, Collin is way ahead of Monta as a scorer.

Per-100 (rookie): Ellis 19.4 points (48.6% true shooting), Sexton 26.1 points (52.0% true shooting)
Per-100 (soph.): Ellis 23.3 points (54.5% true shooting), Sexton 30.6 points (56.0% true shooting)

Collin's sophomore year scoring numbers were better (per-possession) than Monta's scoring numbers at his peak.

I agree with Sexton being a better player, my thesis is in style of play and limitations of the small back court. Hearing Larry Riley spell out what I had been thinking for about a year regarding a small back court pushed me to post about it.

Garland is going to have to show this coaching staff a hell of a lot to get any starter minutes going forward if Sexton comes into camp shooting and passing at a even higher level which I expect is pretty reasonable given he has done nothing but improve and Garland unfortunatley didn't show us much even though he did look a tad better after Beilein left. I was happy with Sexton being a 6th man type after year 1 , but now dont expect that is at all his ceiling and think really anyone saying otherwise is not paying attention
Really at this point Garland being a 6th man looks like his ceiling

Makes sense; I just bring it up because it definitely changes the calculus on whether or not we consider Sexton a core player. Consider this graph, which shows (statistically) the best scorers in the league last year in terms of volume (points/100) and efficiency (TS%). Sexton's improvement from his rookie to sophomore year was pretty dramatic, and has him approaching the fringes of my arbitrary bubble of "elite" pure scorers. If he improves by the same amount from now to his eventual peak, which I think is a fairly sober projection, he could very well be a top-10 pure scorer in the league. Monta Ellis in contrast would have barely crept into the lower left hand corner of this graph at his absolute peak.

Just by watching highlights, Kira Lewis Jr looks like he has untapped potential. Reminds me of a more athletic Caris levert. Can really carve out defenses with his speed and shiftiness.

I have a feeling this post isn't going to age well. Sexton is the 6th man asset wise. Garland is a better PG, by far. Your post is based off frankly 2 things: Sexton was fed the ball a lot so he could goose his trade value. Garland hasn't had the game slow down enough and wasn't hitting enough 3's..........as a 19 year old. That is why posts like these always cause me to chuckle. Its based on lack of data and getting played by PER. Things change and change greatly.

If Garland turns into half the player Sexton was last season in his second season I think the entire fanbase will be happy with it, given how terrible he was as a rookie.
as far as posts aging well. I don't care if it doesn't esp if that means Garland actually contributed something to this roster.
Right now I think your imagination has gotten the best of you, assuming somehow I am basing my take on stats.

Looks good.

Yeah, that looks like stuff he will need to do on the next level. His IQ was really on display there. Does he have elite feel? He might.

A point forward with Sexton makes a lot of sense. He's really looking like what I thought Cedi could be one day, and his base looks very strong defensively.

I'm warming up.

Whose feel for the game is better, him or Killian Hayes? Deni had real wiggle around the rim there, and he had very good positioning on defense there around the basket. Shot looks good.

I think Garland is going to be a good player, but he is just not as far along as Sexton was even after his first year. HE has a looong way to go still. Sexton is at very worst 6th man of the year material. You can talk about feeding him the ball, but he had a really really good sophomore year this year, and nobody is going to doubt he improves next year too. Garland still has a lot to prove. I hope he does, and i think he will. I think his knee will be much improved,a nd I am sure he will be stronger, but he needs to change his mentality.

Does it mean anything that Avdija has been doing better but it's against Israeli scrubs ?
I can't get past the fact he has been hyped up for a long time based on role player level skills
as if they are star level skills.
I do not want this guy any sooner than a trade down situation as a end of rotation Cedi replacement.
He can pass , run in transition score in the open court and has decent size for his mobility, but beyond that his shooting is still streaky with little separation skills , his length and athleticism are negatives for a NBA defender despite being 6'8" or taller, and even though he makes up for it some with his high iq not sold it will matter against faster players.
Overall he about my 12th ranked option and that is only if they think he can defend the wing

I think he’s in the 7-10 range, I’m not that concerned with his shooting I think at worst he will be a low 30% on threes which is passable if he makes it up in other areas. My main concern is his lack of strength/weight and whether he can defend, to me he looks like he will be a turnstile. We really can’t afford to add another bad defender

He looks strong to me at 19. He has a low center of gravity. I think that means he will be able to swing to the 4 I without issue soon if not now. His awareness on defense looks better than any young guy outside of Nance.

I think he is in the list of guys who would improve us defensively. Not his rookie year.

His athleticism is better than advertised. He's a functional athlete that uses his body properly. He's not a freak, but he will be above average I think.

My perception here is that if you saw a college kid doing what he is doing you would be impressed.
