He’ll probably taper off and be a Ryan Braun type...

So... Mookie goes from the Red Sox, where no extension was going to be considered.. to the Dodgers.. and before he plays a single game, is in serious negotiations for a probable 10 year plus contract extension..

What changed?..

-The past two season where even the highest profile free agents to be got paid..slowly
-The advent of a global pandemic giving rise to massive revenue losses..

Before another off season of slow/non existant negotiations for free agent contracts take place or can truly take effect.. & the pandemic continues on its merry way (as if anyone can wave a magic wand to fix it making the blame game going on not only foolish but down right morbid) Mookie signs..

The question becomes..will Frankie wake up tomorrow and see what Mookie is doing or has done and come to the same conclusion.. "...love the one I am with.."

Thoughts
Terrible deal. I'm glad Mookie cashed in, like all young stars he was criminally underpaid to start his career, but imo he peaked already and the Dodgers are going to be seriously regretting this deal if true. Just way, way too long. Had this been a five year deal, even at an ungodly per year, I would feel better. I just don't see the room for growth for a 5'9" guy if/when he starts to lose his speed. Plus have to wonder how he does away from the Red Sox' sign stealing scheme, apparently there Dodgers must have one on par if they feel that comfortable.

The COVID landscape is simple to navigate?— not so much for the Jays. Buffalo might be shuffling back in as an option, even if that is less than desirable from player perspective.

If you thought revenues would continue to rapidly increase throughout baseball this might seem like a reasonable move for LAD, but living in the COVID reality for the next year or more makes planning seem dicey. They could certainly know some big thing we do not, but it does seem odd in the moment.

Brady Singer starting on Saturday for KC.

2018 First Rounder out of Florida, pitched in High-A last year.
Probably a good example of tanking. High A to the bigs - could be, but you got to wonder.

Not a bad time to strike a deal from a leverage at the player end.

All players have to be looking forward to next year with COVID and then the following with the CBA and wondering what the future holds. Security could come at a discount right now.

Mookie had that MVP season, and quite frankly it was an absurd line.

But he's been relatively consistent beyond that, and I'm not sure the value is aligned. But that is big market baseball for you.

Sometimes it works though.

Looking at his scouting report and everything like that, he was going to make the pros at some point this season. He is 23 and was a former College player of the year (success rate lately of those guys is very high). On a team like the Royals, you may as well get him the experience now in the shortened season. He looks to be, floor wise, a 4th/5th starter so he is ready for the chance.

Makes great sense from Mookie’s side.
