2019-2020 Cavaliers fantasy trade thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cleveland Cavaliers & New York Knicks

Cleveland receives: Picks #6, #25, Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington & Elfrid Payton

New York receives: Pick #2, Kevin Love, Cedi Osman & Larry Nance Jr.

Why?
Cleveland trades down in order to get rid of Kevin Love & adds a late pick.

New York gets the 2nd pick in the draft & takes a gamble on Love. Osman & Nance are good role players.

Thoughts?

The Cavs are giving up the best asset in the deal and I'd rather have Nance than Randle. I'm also of the belief that I'd rather have Kevin Love around for his contract than just use him to pick up a late first round pick.

"The Cavs, of course, would have interest in Simmons. .......... But the Cavs believe they have enough to assemble an enticing package"
Read it here (link)

So, the Cavs might have listened to you :alc:

I can't get this trade to work on a trade machine because of a current PPP (Simmons) and an unresolved PO (Drummond), but something along the lines of:

Philadelphia receives:
Darius Garland
Kevin Love
Andre Drummond
2020 Cleveland 1st round pick
2022 Cleveland 1st round pick (top 8 protected)

Cleveland receives:
Ben Simmons
Al Horford

- I think Simmons would be a perfect fit with Sexton bringing playmaking and defense that this team sorely lacks.

- Horford has lost a step, but he was also stuck playing most of his minutes at the 4 last year, but he could slide into the center spot here as his career winds down.

- Love would be a better fit next to Embiid than Horford and they have the same years left on their contracts.

- Drummond is an odd fit in Philly, but necessary to make salaries match (I think) and he'll be an expiring contract for them. They could use him to keep Embiid fresh throughout the year, and maybe they could even occasionally play alongside each other.

We could roll out next year:
Collin Sexton
Kevin Porter Jr.
Ben Simmons
Larry Nance Jr.
Al Horford

I could see that being a quality lineup, putting us in a good place moving forward.

The playoffs begin today! :fight (7):

Hopefully, the Cavs will really try to contend in the coming season.
Here are a few trade ideas I read about (or watched). Nothing earth-shattering, just a few suggested changes. I sort of like these ideas, but not sold on them.

1. Sign two veteran free agent centers - TT and Cousins (not sure if he'll agree, though)
2. After Drummond opts-in, trade him for Batum and pick. Hornets get an excellent center that they lacked, and get rid of Batum who was coming of bench anyway. Cavs get a veteran on bench (or even starting unit) that can mentor the young core
3. Flip Exum and some pick for Aminu - brings in a defence-minded veteran
4. Draft someone who can become the primary ball handler (this is actually the most important part)

Essentially, if all these are realized, we may start Ball, KPJ, Batum, Love, Cousins (with Sexton, Aminu, Cedi, Nance, TT, and Garland coming off bench).
Even if some/all of the four points above do not materialize, we may still have Sexton, KPJ, Avdija, Love, Drummond as starters where Avdija would be the primary ball handler.

Hard no on Booger.. You have Drummond, draft Wiseman or Okongu if you need a big as either will be a better player than Cousins is now (at least from a wins perspective) Cousins has never contributed to a winning organization. Basically demoting our best scorer and adding in expensive players that might have been good at one time but are well past their prime. And any team with Cedi still starting is not going to compete.

Cleveland receives: 19th pick in the draft, Spencer Dinwiddie, Taurean Prince, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen & Lance Thomas

Brooklyn receives: 2nd pick in the draft & Kevin Love

Why? Cleveland flips their top pick into some good role players. Brooklyn gets the 2nd pick in the draft & solve their issue at PF at the same time.

PG: Spencer Dinwiddie
SG: Collin Sexton
SF: Caris LeVert
PF: Taurean Prince
C: Jarrett Allen

PG: Kyrie Irving
SG: Anthony Edwards
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Love
C: DeAndre Jordan

Thoughts?

The trade I see might be happening (in case the Cavs win the lottery but don't want to draft high) with the Nets is:
Dinwiddie + #19 pick <--> Exum + high pick

Now that the lottery is settled and teams are getting bounced...Philly. Will their FO rationalize getting swept as a indicator about how awesome Simmons is or accept that they’re a gatekeeping team as assembled and don’t have a clear path to competing for titles? Some of these max deals need moved.

To Philly:
Garland
Love
Drummond
#5 overall pick
Pick swap in 2021?

To Cleveland:
Simmons
Horford

Rationale for Philly...
- Drummond expires after 1 year. Provides a nice backup for Embiid in 2020/2021.
- Rids team of Horford’s contract. Clears ~$28m contract in his mid-30s.
- Gives Philly nice outside shooting threat in Garland who is 1 year removed from being top 5 pick. High upside. Cheap.
- Philly gets #5 overall pick in interesting draft. Will have choice potentially of Deni, Toppin, maybe even Ball or Wiseman. Can flip this pick + contract for veteran help. CP3 anyone?
- Love is a great complementary piece for Embiid. Can hit the 3 at a great clip. Finals/playoff experience. Will age well. Younger than Horford.

Garland
Richardson
Harris
Love
Embiid

Harris, Love, Richardson, and Garland can all shoot the 3. If you really believe Garland can shoot it better than his rookie season. That’s before any other moves are made or the #5 pick is drafted/traded. Embiid needs rest because he’s generally out of shape and has an injury history. They now have one elite center, one starting quality true center, and a passable center who can shoot (Love) if they need them.

rationale for Cavs...

- uncouples Sexland. Moves forward with Sexton who has shown pathological drive to win and improve. Dan loves him. He’s staying. Good scorer with room for more.
- gets franchise player under contract (Simmons). Simmons’ length is needed if Sexton will get big minutes. Simmons can guard all positions. Needed for basement defensive team. Simmons can run offense and attack the rim. Tremendous talent but lengthy injury history brings down value.
- Love had to go. It was time. Though Horford could easily become the new kvetching vet.
- the Drummond experiment was DOA. He won’t be here long term. Makes more sense on a competing team in a limited role.

Sexton
Porter
Simmons
Nance
Horford

Windler
Cedi
Etc

yeah, there’s flaws here. It’s not a one year turnaround. And lmao rim protection. But SexPortSimmons is a nightmare for opposing defenses I think. Windler and Cedi provide great to passable spot up shooting off the bench. TT could return to shore up front court or be S&T’d?

Horford for Wiggins is a deal I could possibly see being done. I don't know how but we could probably sneak into that one.

I'll play along with Sacramento.

Cleveland trades:
Kevin Love 31.6 million
Dante Exum 9.6 million
Jordan Bell 1.8 million
#5 pick

Kings trade:
Harrison Barnes 22.2 million
Cory Joseph 12.6 million
Bogdan Bogdanovic sign and trade 8.6 million
#12 pick

Why the Cavs do it - I've read they want to win more games now with veterans, and they fill three huge holes with players in their prime: starting SF, high end backup veteran PG who can play defense, swingman with length who can shoot and defend. Nance swings over to starting PF after proving ready.

Why the Kings do it - They retain veteran leadership with Love, clear a lot of long contracts and a logjam at SG, move up in the draft. Love signs off to put up with a bad franchise to live in Napa and eventually open a winery.
