Top 5: Potato Chips

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hard to find where I live, and when I finally got my hands on a bag they didn't hold up to my memory. They are very mild. I want blisters on my tongue after eating too many salt and vinegar chips.

Lay's kettle style salt and vinegar are actually fantastic for a mass produced national potato chip.

Only downside to most good salt and vinegar chips is I can't drink whiskey after eating them because they totally destroy my tongue.

I thought it'd be fun and create a little more friendly banter if we did goofy top 5 lists weekly.

So, first. Top 5 Chips!

5. Lays Sour Cream and Onion
4.Herr's Salt and Vinegar
3. Doritos Cool Ranch
2. Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream
1. And this is by a wide mile, Chili Cheese Fritos

We are basically the same person if only considering chip preferences; perhaps I swap 1 and 2 but I can’t disagree with this.

I don't really like posting, but couldn't pass this one up.

#5 Kettle Pepperoncini
#4 Lays Sour Cream and Onion
#3 Dirty Kettle Potato Chips, Jalapeno Heat
#2 Herr's Salt and Vinegar
#1 Dirty Kettle Potato Chips, Funky Fusion

Correct, but perfect pairing for Keystone Light @IWantAKouki

I'm going to assume you aren't trying to hurt my feelings and you meant to say Natty :chuckle: One thing I don't touch on is how versatile it is....pairing your Natural Light with some Doritos? Enjoy with a slice of lime! Cheddar chips? Maybe a slice of orange. Fine Italian dining? Slice of lemon!

I tend to not buy chips because I am a fatty and like to pretend I have intentions of eating healthier.

However I mistakenly read this thread right before going to the grocery so I thought I would run through the chip aisle, with no intent of buying anything, just seeing if they had some of these more niche chips in stock, and refresh my memory of some of my faves. Then I bought chips.

In no particular order...

Ruffles Sour Cream and Cheddar - not a fan of plain Ruffles (kettle all day every day) but the sour cream and cheddar is so good

Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili - honestly I like Cool Ranch and the regular Doritos maybe equally as much as these but just wanted to give them a shout out in case any Doritos fans out there haven't tried them. They are fantastic and a bag ended up being my dinner when I was in college more than once (ironically I was skinny back then).

Gold 'n Crisp Kettle - This is what I just bought when I went through the chip aisle. I was reminded of the big white bag because in my youth my well-off neighbors would buy these and make chip sandwiches - shitty white bread with Gold 'n Crisp chips in the middle (yes, I realize the irony is strong there). Then I realized they make kettle chips, so I bought them, even though they were like six bucks, wtf. Could use a bit more salt but they are cooked in a blend of oil and lard. Enough said. Might be eating a chip sandwich for dinner tonight.

Snyder Kettle Jalapeno - it's been a while but I recall these being my favorite Jalapeno chips.

Miss Vickies Kettle Salt n Vinegar - I never buy salt and vinegar chips unless they are accompanied by a deli sandwich, and Jimmy Johns has these, so winner by default.

Sun Chips Cheddar - what I get when I don't want to feel guilty eating chips even though they are probably just as bad as chips but maybe they have some more fiber in them or some gastrointestinal benefits but whatever they say whole grains on the package and the government says I should eat 6-11 servings of grains every day so this helps thanks lobbyists

Shout outs -

Dirty Kettle chips - peanut oil is the superior oil for cooking chips.

Mike Sells - also cooked in peanut oil - one of the better non-kettle chips, made in Springfield OH where my parents came from so it was embellished on me from a young age that these were good and I obliged like the good Catholic boy I was.

Late July Tortilla Chips - the best tortilla chips I have had. I'm not a stickler or a purist or whatever but these actually taste of corn and I actually prefer that, unlike my taste in adjunct lagers where corn taste is not desired.

How liberal can we get with the definition of chips?

Goldfish - Cheddar Jack'd - crack

Combos - Pizzeria - also crack (also like 600 calories per bag holy crap how is that possible)

Smartfood White Cheddar popcorn - like Sunchips, these say healthy on them so you don't feel bad when you eat a whole bag

Edit jesus h christ I really felt like I had nothing to contribute to this topic but I just wrote an essay on chips

Not Chips, but if you've never had Dots pretzels, you have to try them. Rather don't, because as soon as you try them you turn into an addict driving around from store to store looking for your next bag. They put something addicting in the seasoning, I'm convinced.

This is probably the most offensive thing I've written on RCF in quite a while. I thoroughly apologize. BTW - because of this thread I've had hotdogs and Kettle chips for lunch two days in a row.

Late July >>>>>>>>>>>

I like the Veggie Straws. They have this illusion of health because they say Veggie in the name. Only they are fucking awful for you but taste great!
