2020 College Football Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As it probably should be.

The NFL has billions of reasons for playing.

College athletes and their amateur status should prohibit them from playing during a health crisis.

Everything will be better in the spring guys!

Oh there is no way in hell they are playing the spring.

Why in the world would players, especially those who could be top picks in the NFL draft, put their career on the line twice in a calendar year for nothing?

Well nobody who can leave would play. Of course.

but yea my point is, the pandemic isnt going to just peace out by spring.

I understand pushing it to spring if there is even a chance to play with fans in attendance. For the universities, getting those donors to come and donate will help with some of the loses they are looking at right now. For the players who are going to the NFL, it will be a hard choice to play. Hopefully the NFL pushes back the draft so that isn't what stops them from playing.

I like this idea if the inevitable happens with the rest of the conference tomorrow, as rumored.

Also consistent with the rumors on bucknuts that Iowa's season in particular is cancelled, which doesn't make sense given their history in the top tier of the conference.

I know this is a rumor but I'm wonder how easy it would be for these schools to switch conferences. They must have some sort of contract with their conference and to honor a decision like this.

The conversation really changed when the university presidents seem to get involved. They have a duty to the whole school not just the student athletes. I don't even think universities think they can pull off keeping a limited amount of classes in person right now.

This might be about limited resources and concentrating too many of those on sports while it would put facility and staff at even greater risk.

I want college football and the NFL but both have been living in a dream world for the last couple months. The first step is both to be realistic and tell fans they will have to watch from home. Tailgating, packing bars, congregating for games, etc puts the season further at risk.

Force majeure?

Interesting to see that many D3/D2 schools are going ahead with their "low risk sports" at close to normal, but trying to postpone football to spring.

Homecoming and other events are always tied to football games. I think there is alot of donations to the university itself that is tied to these events. Those go probably way beyond the donations to the sports programs but would be much harder for the public to know exact how much is generated from those events.

Moving it to spring at least keeps the hope they can keep that money train coming in. At this point we are probably looking at no fans if a fall season happens. They don't want outsiders coming into campus, the adjustment to school schedules seem to show that.

The big donors probably keep giving but the average alumni isn't giving that small donation without dropping by some alumni tent before a game. Those small donations can add up to alot of money.

Both my kids are D3 athletes...4 more nieces and nephews at D3 and 1 at D1. Sports at D3 are major factors in enrollment ( at my sons' colleges, 35% and 37% of students are Varsity athletes) so they are motivated to have sports in the effort to retain students. These kids do not get scholarships, they really just want to play/compete. All these places would seem to be headed for a world of hurt...
