Has anyone seen any reports of catchers or umpires becoming Covid infected? Seems they would be the most exposed.

This Stroman thing rubs me the wrong way

and I am not sure exactly why. Except to say => he is always shooting off his mouth about stuff, but when it comes time to man up, he seems to be a shrinking violet at best.

Probably unfair, but it wouldn't be the firs time I was accused of not being PC

Why does this rub you the wrong way?

It sounds like you’re saying that opting out is shrinking and not “manning up”, but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Probably this:

By staying on the Injured List until now, Stroman was able to ensure that he’d reach free agency this winter, even without throwing a pitch. If, by contrast, he had opted out before the year began (throwing the exact same number of pitches as he has this season … 0), he would have not accrued any service time and thus would’ve been under Mets control for another year (presuming he wasn’t one of the “high risk” players, for whom I believe there are special clauses for this exact situation).

If you have a commitment, like it is tooooo dangerous, then own up and opt out. But to drag along on the injured list until you are supposedly 100% and then opt out is just "chicken sh.t" to me.

I don’t have a problem with that just because the list of teams manipulating service time in their favor is extensive.

I could of sworn Stroman was a "high risk" player...

I know he’s cited having high-risk family members, but I haven’t seen specifics. Nor do I need to.

I probably wasn't real clear on my post. But it was directed towards his teammates not management.

So all those guys in that dugout have to share a collective responsibility for bringing their best for all to flourish. Just about the time one of the pieces they were counting on is ready to contribute, he splits. And once again I realize it may not be the correct thing to say or think. But if I was one of those guys in that dugout that was counting on
Stroman, it sure wouldn't sit well with me. Because optics look like he is a ME ONLY PLAYER - a guy who takes care of himself (hanging out on the IL to collect service time) and when he gets what he wants F... everyone else.

And if I am a GM, it makes me wonder when he will quit (when things don't go his way) on my team if I sign him

I guess I don't see how he hurt his teammates any extra by opting out now rather than earlier.

As far as the bolded, wow... I just can't even relate to this thought. There's a pandemic happening right now. I don't think any FO member would try to project this situation onto future ones.

I heard on the MLB channel today that MLB will focus on the Cardinals playing all games
vs division opponents and are willing to scrap however many other games as necessary.

What an asinine approach. It’s as if MLB never developed a contingency plan(s) while starting up in the middle of a pandemic.

The Cardinals have had 13 games cancelled for the virus so far.

They have 2 off days the remainder of the regular season.

That doesn't pencil out even under the new math.

Well playing for a team it is kind of like being in a fox hole Derek.

You work to get your fox hole dug and prepared to do battle. And all the guys that are going to be in that fox hole help. And when the bullets start to fly, you expect to turn around and see everyone of those guys that were getting ready for the fight. When you turn around and one isn't there, and your Sargent tells you that he opted out, doesn't sit real well with the guys in the fox hole that have one less guy to cover their backs.

If you aren't going to be in the fox hole, don't pretend like you are. Own up to it so they can get someone who will be there when the baseballs start to fly.

And on the GM front => don't kid yourself, GM's ask themselves all the time if a player is going to quit on them. Because quitting on a baseball field doesn't mean you walk away. You can just not give a shit, and that is an absolute cancer in a clubhouse. And those guys in a clubhouse can sniff out guys like that. Remember they live together for almost 8 months, no one pulls the wool over everybody's eyes for that long.

That was the rap on Danny Salazar at least 2 years before injuries sidelined him completely. He was widely despised by a bulk of the clubhouse, because they felt like he quit on them. Not unlike the guy digging the fox hole above and then not showing up
