The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wasn't there a certain poster who shall remain nameless who was absolutely adamant that Reyes was going to see time in the outfield this year? What happened to that? Simply a stupid idea.
I don’t remember anybody here really pushing it, but the organization certainly expressed plans to do so throughout the offseason.

IIRC, Franmil got dinged up at one point and they basically abandoned that idea.

The thing is, if Clev gets traded, we would get someone like a Puig (aka short term upgrade), 1-2 prospects with a MLB timeline debut of 2020/21 and 1-2 lower prospects with potential.

I dont think any team is willing to give up what we want for him, especially since it will contender to contender. I know this FO is creative and whatnot, but its hard to see the deal we need/want happening.

But I don't think Frazier would be a short term solution. Neither would Mike Yaz, or the kid OF with the Braves. (Can't think of his name )

If we got Frazier, what would likely happen is, we cut Domingo so they would replace each other. Also its not like we have to keep Frazier long term either as well. He would be fine short term.

Clevinger is worth more than two DHs, which is what Frazier and Andujar are.

The column in The Atlantic that suggested this trade stated that Andujar can play first base. He could also DH and Reyes could play right field, moving Naquin to center and Frazier in left. The defense would suffer but replacing Domingo Santana and Allen/DeShields with these two bats every day might help us more than replacing Clevinger with McKenzie every five days would hurt us (and are we really sure it would?)

Andujar could move to first base whenever we move on from Santana, who is making about $18 million.

Whoever wrote that article is....uh....either bereft of any baseball knowledge or just plain stupid.

All of us have seen the butchery of Naquin in centerfield, being a prime cause of us losing a World Series. Every Yankee fan has seen the disaster that Frazier is in the outfield. And there is a reason that Reyes is our DH while Domingo plays in the field.

Without having the opportunity of seeing every combination of outfielders in MLB history, allow me to offer this opinion...

Reyes, Naquin, and Frazier might be the absolute worst defensive outfield to ever take the field.

Naquin wasn't in CF though that day...

But honestly, that wouldn't be a good OF at the end of the day.

Though normally levelheaded, cats can go off the deep end.

Any Clevinger trade, whether soon or in the offseason, has to bring back a well-above-average outfielder with several years of control, plus two pitchers who are highly rated but maybe two years away, plus a decent lottery ticket. And that’s only if we’re fairly confident in a rotation of Bieber, Civale, Plesac, Carrasco and McKenzie. Right now, Carrasco looks like he’s not fully recovered from illness and McKenzie has made one start in two years.

Power corner players who can't play defense are about the least marketable players in baseball. Ask any agent.

Elite SPs with multiple years of below market cost are the most marketable players. Ask any GM.

On one hand we have the latter. On the other hand, some of our Fandom wish to trade uim for the former.

Because of his contract situation, Clevinger is worth more in Trade than Bauer. Bauer had a year left at $17.5 mil. Clev will have two left at probably around $21 mil. Clevinger has also been a more productive SP, but not as durable.

We saw what Bauer brought in trade.

Clev would bring at least as much, and probably more. A trade with the Yankees which really doesn't make sense for us, would bring a return something like...

Frazier or Andujar.
Schmidt
Miguel Yajure
Another MLB ready prospect/player.
A lower level prospec

Personally, I think looking east is the wrong direction. Go west, young man.

Who has a glut of good outfielders? The team in Anaheim, who could afford to trade two of them.

Goodwin would help now and for two more years. Marsh would immediately be our top prospect. Then, a MLB SP who needs some TLC from our developmental folks...Patrick Sandoval. And two prospects.

Its not a trade I'm advocating for, but I'd think hard.

As for Naquin in the World Series. His misplay led directly to a loss in a Series that went seven.

During his time in CF, he was rated as one of the two worst defensive CFs in the game.

Thats not hyperbole or going off the deep end. Thats how the rest of baseball viewed him.

Cole had bad day against Atlanta .... 5 ER in 5 innings. NYY may get desperate. Yet, I agree Atlanta and LAA have more of what we need but may not be as desperate to win, yet.

Always thought that Frazier had the makings of a good right fielder.
Is he truly as ridiculously bad as you guys are saying?
