2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't understand why Simmons is on the block. The guy the Sixers need to dump is Embiid. Look how the Sixers got swept by the Celtics with Embidd scoring 30 points a game, but with Simmons out of the lineup. Simmons is the MVP of that team. Embiid is a chemistry killer.

Just saying...

I think the sweep had more to do with the trash heap of a roster outside of Embiid/Simmons. Embiid was pretty damn good against Boston. He just had zero help.

Sixers need to do whatever they can to revamp the roster around Simmons/Embiid.

I wonder what the Cavs could get if they swapped Love for Horford. If they really want to shake things up they're going to have to move him or Tobias - and I'm really not sure anyone is going to trade for Tobias' contract. Maybe Horford + Shake + a couple 1sts for Love + Garland?

I feel like everybody drawing up trades in which The Cavs receive Al Horford haven't seen Al Horford play all season. Let's not even talk about his contract. He sucks right now. Kevin Love is better.

Love is also more than two years younger than Horford. But, in any event, I would doubt that we're looking at any trades that move our veterans for worse players plus future draft picks. Doesn't seem like Dan is going to put much value on extra future draft picks.

Philly is desperate and the only thing they can do outside of moving Simmons/Embiid (which Brand stated he is not doing) is moving Horford. The Cavs are one of the few teams who could feasibly trade for Al, so I just hope Koby does his due diligence. I think Horford would probably be a better vet presence than Love as well, though Kevin seemed to turn a corner late last season in that regard.

"Scrap Iron." Is that Horford's contract situation now?

Horford's problem is that he's a center, not a PF. But the Sixers offense is structured about Embiid at center, which leaves Horford with no role. IMO, the chemistry on that team would be much better with Horford starting at center, Harris starting at PF and Embiid gone.

Regardless, it's clear the Ben Simmons is the key to that team's success. The Sixers would be crazy to trade him.

Simmons has almost been hurt every season isn't that accurate? When it comes to the NBA as we ALL are aware, your window can be horrifically short, so talent aside (and Simmons is blessed plenty of it) perhaps that is their angle? Fit to get towards that next level. The question we all have to ask ourselves is, would you add Simmons if it means taking on Horford. My answer is no.

Additionally, there is a lot of feeling out there with Brett Brown getting canned that the new coach will get a shot with the Sixers roster as is.

I truly don't know how to improve our team other than letting time pass. I dig some of the talent but we need KPJ and Garland just to be better consistent basketball players.

I thought of a Love for Horford trade but I realized that Philly doesn't have great assets to make it happen. The thought behind it wasn't for Horford but Philly willing to give up good assets to get a better fit. Cavs basically would eat Horford's contract. The 2020 OKC first round pick isn't worth taking on Horford and losing Love unless there is someone the Cavs are purely in love with at #17 during the draft. I still think it takes more assets to get it done.

Horford has lost a step, clearly, but he'd still be a serviceable 5-man. The issue is, the Sixers have one of the best 5-men around and Horford can no longer keep up with anybody on the perimeter, which renders him ineffective as a 4.

The issue for teams that might look to trade with Philly is that Horford's contract is an albatross. I don't have a huge problem with taking it on, but I would expect to get paid kindly for it.

Horford/Thybulle/1st round pick for Love? Honestly, there's probably not a deal to be made here, just snowballing.

Yeah that is what I have been thinking. They aren't going to give up Thybulle I think. Really, I do think that is a great fit with Simmons and Embiid. You need a 4 that will hoist and that is Klove. I could take Kormaz I suppose if they had a better pick, but they don't. I think your trade is the starting point due to Horford's age and contract, but I don't see them doing it. Brand is probably in the hot seat too though, so a way to salvage the Embiid/Simmons pairing might be worth it.

Would you do Cedi/Love for Horford?Thybulle and OKC first? Gives up an improving shooter who would probably thrive in the Philly offense. I might do that.

I feel like adding Horford and trading away Love cause all sorts of roster issues for the Cavs. I'm not sure it would work without other trades. Horford would become the backup to Drummond and we would be left with a hole at PF. I don't think Nance is good enough to step in or capable physically to handle that load of minutes. Let say we use the #5 pick on Obi Toppin to replace Love. What kind of effect does #17 or anyone else we get back moves the needle to make the Cavs that much better.

Ideally Horford would come in to be a mentor to a center and they share those minutes. We move Drummond too and make a major shift in the roster to have a clear plan for how to make the roster work.

I think trading Love would mean Drummond was gone by the deadline too. Teams who thought they were going to have Giannis cap for 2021 prob won't once the new number is announced.

Nance can handle PF duty. He is good. Don't forget Wade. I think it would be good to get him minutes. Would prob need another PF to round it out. You are totally right that there would have to be further moves. Might pre-emptively sign TT.

Drummond's contract is huge and it will be hard to match, but 28M in space plus a guy who could potentially help you in the playoffs doesn't come around every day in a shrinking cap situation.

Glad we are out of the repeater tax because taking on money at this point could get some good pieces.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Horford and like Love, but I like Thybulle.
