2020 NFL OFF-SEASON THREAD

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tampa Bay would make a lot of sense here

I could see Pittsburgh, too. They kind of just have a mess of QB’s on their roster with Rudolph, Hodges, and Lynch. I’d much rather have Rosen to potentially groom than any of those guys.

I hope Pitt doesn't get him, as Im a Rosen truther and that would suck if he figured it out in Pitt

I'm expecting the NFL rating to be down after the initial week. Just from my circle of friends, there is so little enthusiasm about the season starting and barely any interest in fantasy football. I'm commissioner in one league and co-commissioner in another. I usually get people asking me to active the league, put out the draft orders, etc for weeks before the start of the year. This year I got one person asking and some lukewarm answers when seeing if everyone was back in. The league I'm co-commissioner in seems to be dead, I'm more co-commissioner to make sure the settings and any technical stuff gets worked out. The other commissioner asked if I wanted to take over complete duties and I declined because I don't know everyone personally in the league.

I think the NFL kind of screwed up their season. They should have dived deeper into hooking people into fantasy football. I've believed that alot of the rating have been driven by fantasy over the past 10 or so years. I don't think home market ratings are going to take a hit but national ratings will. If people are playing less leagues they will watch less games. No preseason probably has driven more people to not care about fantasy.

I also think the lack of consistency about fans in the stadium is going to hurt them. Ad revenue could have been generated league wide if they just decide no fans all together. I also think they could have gotten innovative about how they used the extra time during the broadcast and tarped off seats. Maybe that could have been dedicated to fantasy football in some way.

I think you're right. I'm personally not that excited because I'm expecting the NFL to bungle this and have to cancel the season at some point. Hope its not true, but I'm consistently amazed at how they have always done the wrong thing no matter the situation. I only have 6 people in my league this year also and we just drafted and I haven't even checked to see who's on waivers in over a week. Just not excited.

I've heard the same things from my friends. People who would play in some big money leagues and subscribe to Sunday ticket just because of fantasy football are just playing in the one league they have the most connections to. I think there will be unforseen circumstances that will have major impact on teams and impact fantasy league. I even told everyone in my league to wait to pay in because I'd rather void out the season with no one's money in hand than have to refund everyone.

Im about to have my fantasy draft, and quite frankly I couldnt care less. I have very mild interest in the browns, but thats about it. In my dynasty league we have 10 keepers (so basically your entire starting lineup). I have the first pick this year so im going to go with Edwards-Helaire. But honestly I doubt ill make it to the 4th round and just turn on auto draft

NFL also has weighed in on some issues that were likely to alienate some fans regardless of the particular positions taken by the league/players. No way to make everyone happy, and there is likely to be some fallout from that as well.

I think that might be the narrative that the media might run with initially because no one really ties the NFL success to fantasy football. I think when they get data from companies running fantasy and surveys to find out why their ratings do dip, they will see fantasy football will be the biggest reason why the ratings dropped.

I don't think alot of people feel confident that the NFL has properly protected their players which could create the most frustrating part of fantasy football, certain players not playing. Everyone has had a year where injuries rack up at the wrong time. Add in an illness that could sideline them for weeks or cause them to opt out all together and it makes sense why there isn't any enthusiasm.

I expect Sunday ticket subscription to dip significantly. At&t finally said they want to get rid of Directv in the last couple weeks. They even started to advertise that you can get Sunday ticket without DirecTV if eligible, I don't think I've seen them actually advertise that in the past.

It will be interesting to hear the talking heads argue all of this in the coming weeks.

I also think it is going to be down because of how they have backed certain social issues and went more political. Not that I agree with their stance, but I have talked to a lot of people who are upset they are going to allow players to kneel. It will definitely be an interesting season that’s for sure.

I'm sure a lot of leagues are taking a year off simply because we have no idea if there will be a full season or not.

I'm full steam ahead, though. Got a draft each of the next four nights.

How many leagues do you usually play? Is it down this year?

From what I'm hearing is people are just downsizing on the amount of leagues they are playing. That basically will hurt ratings because less potential players to watch could lead to people just picking something else to watch or do. Also there will be people who their one league just doesn't happen and the don't seek out another league.

I usually get a invite to a league every year or people asking to join my league. That hasn't happen at all this year.

All my main leagues are active this year. I'm in roughly the same amount of leagues as always, not counting the Underdog best ball leagues I'm doing because I've done a shitload of those drafts this year due to boredom. I've got a handful of pay leagues plus a few free ones like the keeper league here. I bowed out of a couple of the free ones, but that was because I often neglected them in favor of the pay leagues.

Just made my call to get Sunday Ticket Max for free. I had called in August, but it wasn't an option yet, so the lady said to call back around this time.

This year may have been my easiest and quickest call. I said, "I called in and talked to a lady last month, and she said to call back about now to get set up with my complimentary Sunday Ticket Max...so I'm calling."

She said, "Yep...looks like you qualify for the complimentary package. I'll go ahead and set this up for you."

Easy peasy.
