Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Obviously his play needs to do the talking, but I’m very excited to see he took his conditioning and fitness seriously this offseason after slacking last year. That can only help.

Hopeful that he took on a similar renewed focus on the playbook and nuances of the QB position. He sets our ceiling.

He's a rhythm passer who has no rhythm at the moment.

Let's see what he looks like against Cincy.

He also has to feel comfortable behind his offensive line. With this being the first set of game reps behind this line, it want surprising he had happy feet today.

The coaching staff really needs to take pressure off of him and be more creative. All these weapons on offense should make it easy for misdirections and alot of quick passes. Let Baker grow comfortable with the offensive line and the new playbook.

I actually thought the line did pretty well today. It seemed like Baker often had plenty of time to throw, but instead held the ball and ran around.

Seems like he's thinking too much. The Baker of 2018 was a "don't give a fuck" gunslinger. We need that Baker back.

The overthrows have always been an issue though and today was certainly no exception. If he can't hit layups, he can't play.

I felt like the longer he played, at least in the 1st half, the better he looked. That scoring drive and then the 2 minute drill was good. But drops and then the offense got too predictable because of the score and things got out of hand.

I don't think there is any "supporting cast" excuses that can be made. If he cannot execute at some point this year with this offense, then he needs to get pulled and they need to reconsider the future at QB.

Lets give it more than one game before we pull the plug on him?

His 4th system in 4 years, and only very limited practice time to learn it, and no real game experience with it till today. Combined with going against a team that is a favorite to go to the super bowl the results were predictable. Extremely predictable.

If he sucks like this all year thats one thing. But calling for the back up after 1 game is ridiculous.

I agree but lets agree this Bengal game is Huge for Baker. He really need to play well in this game. People are starting to lose faith. A big
game would buy him some time and put him back in the good graces of the fans.

Browns shouldn't throw it more than 20 times. The Bengals lost DJ Reader today to a bad injury and they have given up 150+ yards to the Chargers on the ground.

Browns should be able to hit 200 on the ground fairly easily.

Yes, we seem to always overperform the 2nd game after underperforming the 1st game.

At least he looks better than Brady, who finally, really, actually seems done.

I noticed last year that with Baker that the longer he played behind the same group on the o-line the more confidence he had in them. The moment they had to switch a piece out he basically would lose confidence in them all together. I think it will take a couple games for him to be confident in this unit.
