Future Roster - Trade Needs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The usual suspects in this article other than this:

The Indians 2021 Roster Could Look Nothing Like it Does Now; Could That Be a Good Thing?

Jose Ramirez - Due to make $9.4 million in 2021, would it be a surprise to hear Ramirez’s name pop up when it comes to trade rumors? Ramirez is due to make $11 million in 2022 with a $2 million dollar buyout, and in 2023 at age 30 he’s due to see a salary of $13 million.

By the time 2021 starts Ramirez might be the only starting 2020 infielder left on the roster, and while again you’re likely to hear his name pop up if team’s have interest, here’s a bet he’s on the roster next season - for what could be his last.

Jose isn't going anywhere this offseason. The Indians would get a bigger haul for Ramirez this offseason than Lindor but it's just not how the Indians operate.... and they're not having a fire sale. I mean, the article's insinuation that Dolan can't afford Ramirez's meager salary is a joke; it's the best contract in baseball by a country mile.

The Indians will continue to rebuild on the fly, be highly dependent on Ramirez and the pitching staff, plug holes with cheap and short-term deals and try to remain competitive until some of their young and talented prospects are ready to contribute at the Major League level. Ho hum....

Ed, you're probably right, but if the offer is too good to refuse then it probably won't be. Lindor, Santana, Hernandez, and Hand will not be back under their current contracts. If they get an excellent offer for Ramirez then they very well may take it. I'm not speculating what a "good offer" is at this time, but stranger things have happened. They may look at it like killing 2 birds with one stone. Instead of disappointing the fans with the trade of Lindor this offseason then Jose the next, they may just get it over with. Again, the offer has to satisfy MC and CA or it won't happen.

I mean if the offer is right for Jose, then yeah, the Indians need to do it for the long term.

Though part of me says, if we get rid of Santana, Hand, Lindor, we only have two guys making any money overall in JRam and Carrasco.

We all know starting pitching will be solid. We need Left handed depth in the bullpen but otherwise we dont need to do a ton there.

I feel like between Clement, T. Freeman, Miller, Chang, and a veteran (we always bring in someone to compete) we should internally be able to on paper replace some of the production of Hernandez and Lindor. Naylor takes over at 1B with Bradley and Bauers competing with him.

Personally though a veteran OF bat would be nice to have (someone with a lot of leadership even if they are ancient lol).

We dont know how much Nolan Jones though got better either. So if the right deal for JRam comes up, honestly with all the other spots being young guys, I am not 100% against making a move and letting the young guys play. I just dont like the mass exodus of any type of veteran not being in Cleveland anymore.

i'm surprised we dont hear carrasco's name more - he's owed 12 mil each of the next two seasons and has a vesting option for the 3rd year at 15 mil if he pitches 170 innings - if they dont want to afford clevinger at say 8 mil for next season why would they want to drop that kind of money on cookie?

As I have said before, Carrasco essentially was promised a no trade clause by the Indians since he wants to retire an Indian which is why he signed his second contract extension. So regardless of what what some peeps on here think, Carrasco will be here to finish out his contract. Plain and simple

I like all the thoughts here.

Typically in free agency, scoring a "power bat" that can play 1B/OF/DH are more affordable than an up the middle guy.

Despite what happens in the off-season, I would fairly shocked if we didn't add a veteran bat to man the OF and/or 1B. That might be part of a trade, a FA signing... who knows..

We really don't even need a power bat even. We just need that older professional player who is consistent and can help the younger guys. I am thinking towards the Brantley style of player personally.

Exactly.. Party at Napoli's..

Exactly! Every single season we went deep in the playoffs, we had that type of player! Who on this team is the older guy that has that type of effect on the roster?

Yeah, pitching is not the area of concern by any means. There's quality depth there.

I'm not one that believes "veteran presence" is a need. I say put a talented player in every position possible and let the chips fall.

Theoretically, trading Lindor and Ramirez should plug a few holes on the big league club. We know that MIF and SP are the strong suites of the organization. There are guys like Bradley, Chang, and Bauers that could find their way. There are prospects like Jones, Freeman, Miller, and Johnson that are close. Ultimately this club could take a step or 2 backwards while the young guys develop or there could be enough ready talent brought back that makes them better when infused with the current crop of young players and prospects.

If we didnt need a veterans presence, why did we have Giambi on the roster? Why did we have Trot Nixon? Why was Napoli such an important player for us?

You need guys to show the new guys the ropes. You don't do a new job without some type of training or person to show you around do you?

I get these guys know how to play baseball, but if you have no one to show by example how to go about your business nor do you have someone to help you through the low times cause because you are adjusting to stronger opponents, then you are more likely to struggle and to get into bad habits. Coaches are there to help, but you cannot deny you learn more from your peers than your managers at times do you not?

I could see a Lindor trade to the Braves for a package headed by Waters. I just don't know what teams that will be interested in Ramirez's services. Surely there will be many. The Marlins might be a good team to cut a deal with.

repeating yourself doesn't make it anymore valid - if it is true it is an incredibly f'n stupid decision. plain and simple.

Not really since he signed a team friendly contract twice with the Indians. It's called the Indians organization has morals and made a promise. Why do people get mad when a team actually shows they have some morals and they keep their promises to the players?

And I am repeating myself because its not going to change so if the same question gets posted, it will have the same answer. 2 + 2 is 4 and always will be 4 regardless of what you say or do.

Now if this was MLB the Show or OOTP, Carrasco would be traded, but thats not real life.

We don't need a veteran's presence... But we do need to add some lumber in the OF or at 1B. Internal options point to signing a stopgap of some sort in the OF and/or 1B. This could be the "vet" type of guy to add some glue...

I try not to believe in "intangibles" too much, but the team seems sort of rudderless in some way.. Sorry Jram and Carlos.... We take you for granted.

Edit.. I meant Carrasco, and Santana...

That guy should be Carlos except he has lost bat speed.
