The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yup, glad tuesday was my last day at Gamestop. I knew the console launches were going to be a shit show. Not enough/ companies bundling them to maximize profit are going to make already stressed out customers even worse. Hope nothing big happens bc of it.

Just got one from this link. Follow this account if you want one, they are posting when sites update.

Anyone manage to snag a PS5 preorder yesterday?

What an absolute mess that turned out to be. Sony gave Microsoft some free good publicity with how badly that was bungled.
I actually got three. One from target, one from amazon, and then one digital version from Best Buy. The GeForce rtx 3080 was even more difficult to get.

I may have got one of those from amazon Germany. It says it went through, but I haven’t been charged yet and the preorder was up for a suspiciously long time.

I see zero reason to buy these consoles day one, so no. I’ll snag one late next year.
This is the first time in a long time that consoles aren’t actually behind the 8 ball hardware wise. The ps4 and Xbox one were dead on arrival due to their extremely crappy jaguar cpu cores that were awful even at the time.

This time they are rocking modern zen 2 cpus Which are extremely good. The zen architecture put AMD back on the map and knocked Intel on their ass. It’s also sporting a yet to be released (soon though) AMD RDNA 2 gpu. They are also using ssds by default Instead of slow mechanical drives, and came up with a technique to get faster reading throughput which will reduce loading times significantly and will be majorly reduce stutter from on the fly asset loading in open world games.

If you have a tv with variable refresh rate, both consoles support that including 4k 120 hz. Input lag will be reduced significantly with 120 hz and variable refresh rate.

Also, at least on Sony side games are finally more and more starting to use gyroscope which has me extremely excited because you can actually compete with mouse and keyboard players due to the precision from gyro movement.

I’ve been mainly a pc gamer but I’m extremely excited about this generation.

That’s all great, but there are no games until 2021 at the earliest.

Games that have performance issues on ps4 due to poverty cpu will perform great now. Input lag will be reduced and there will be no stutter due to frametime spikes.

That’s a good enough reason for me with it being backwards compatible. I can see why it wouldn’t be a big deal for everybody.

Cross gen games that are getting Ps5 version will be a quantum leap over ps4. Dmc 5 is getting ray tracing 60 FPS at 1080 p, 30 FPS 4k, a whopping 120 FPS without ray tracing at 4K for those with 120 hz tvs.

I get what you mean that there are no Ps5 only games, but the experience will be a significant improvement if you have capable display. It’s kind of like having a mediocre pc and then upgrading and being able to jack up settings for better visuals and performance.

Yeah, again that's all cool, I just have no negative experience in these areas that tempts me to spend $500 day one for a piece of hardware that especially will likely have bugs and glitches fixed in later models. I'm not a performance enthusiast or guru. That's what PC gaming is for, haha.

I also have an Xbox One X so that may play a part. I plan on buying Cyberpunk on that so I have 4K covered.

Some potentially huge gaming news hit today as Microsoft just bought ZeniMax, the company that owns Bethesda, id, Arkane, MachineGames, and several other companies whose franchises include Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dishonored, Wolfenstein, and Doom.

It sounds like a lot of the titles from these companies will still be multi-platform for the near future, although you have to think that at some point Microsoft would be foolish not to make major titles exclusive to the Xbox/PC. That's major leverage for them to get gamers to buy an Xbox and I can't see them not taking advantage of it. However, I'm sure these companies may have already signed deals with Sony for upcoming games and those deals will be honored.

Another possibility is that major games will remain multi-platform but will be available on Gamepass, which means anyone signed up gets to play them for free. This won't help Sony at all but will definitely get more people subscribed to Gamepass while still making money off of PS/Switch sales.

Still a huge acquisition for Microsoft, though. This is the shot in the arm they needed to compete with Sony's army of high-profile exclusives.

One of the biggest industry acquisitions ever.

Rumor has it there's another big acquisition being worked out. It's no secret that Microsoft consistently fails to gain a foothold in Japan. Numerous comments about more RPGs coming to the Xbox. Basically, the rumor is that Microsoft is working on buying out Sega after all the success of the yakuza series coming to gamepass.

*Eat that ass* If this holds true, that would give MS Atlus as well, and as JRPG fan, I'd get my god damn Persona again.

That would be huge for the Japanese market for xbox. could see them possibly working with releasing games on a nintendo platform in Japan as well

Im very interested in demon souls since I never played it on ps3 and it looks like its not coming to ps4. I also missed out on the spiderman game because my ps4 broke. So im in for the spiderman edition that gives you remastered original plus miles morales as well as demon souls. That gives me plenty to play between that and my pc.
