2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Those things all can be a product of the QB not being comfortable in the system, which was true last season as well when Freddie went away from the shit that worked in 2018, and the OL fell apart.

Baker may very well not be the guy. But I personally would want to see how Baker does in Stefanski's system when he's had a reasonable amount of time to get comfortable in it before reaching that conclusion.

Not having a real preseason and a chance to see Keenum play with the 1's might actually be a blessing in disguise for Baker. I wouldn't be surprised if Keenum looked better right now playing with the starters because of his familiarity but it would put to bed a lot of excuses people have been making for Baker regarding OBJ.

I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey.... the journey to find a GODDAMN QB and a WINNING FRANCHISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They should schedule ND State on the 17th. Sponsored by Pilot Travel Centers LLC .

Not only that, but its really easy to forget that Baker still has less than 30 starts in the NFL, and while I would say he is trending the wrong way he still put up one of the best rookie seasons ever for a QB.

Give the guy a chance to actually learn a system, and play in it for a while before just cutting him loose.

I am a Lawrence guy, but I also love fields. I think either are top 5 prospects from the last 5 QB classes though. I also think Lance is a better Prospect than anyone anyone in Bakers year, but he is a distant 3rd to Lawrence and Fields.

I like both Trevor and Fields. I slightly prefer Fields, but both are good and I would not mind either one of them.

Fail for Fields.
Tank for Trevor.

With that being said which QB prospect would fit Stefanski system best?

so i understand that this is the prospects thread and QBs are sexy, but there is like a 1% chance the browns are taking any of these guys....

I tend to agree with this statement. I actually see us getting a QB via trade or FA and drafting a guy in rounds 2 or 3 and letting him develop.

For what it's worth.

15) Cleveland Browns: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB Notre Dame
This is a great fit for the Browns. Owusu-Koramoah is not just any linebacker, but a linebacker, slot cornerback, and safety all rolled into one player. The calling card of Owusu-Koramoah is his elite coverage skills. Given the struggles in the safety and linebacker room for the Browns, Owusu-Koramoah gives them a great weapon to match up against tough weapons like Mark Andrews and others in the AFC North.

47) Cleveland Browns: Paulson Adebo, CB Stanford

79) Cleveland Browns: Joe Tyron, EDGE Washington

92) Cleveland Browns (via NO): Osa Odighizuwa, IDL UCLA

109) Cleveland Browns (via PHI): Tutu Atwell, WR Louisville

110) Cleveland Browns: Drake London, IOL Kentucky

I saw 3 QBs in round 1, then none til the last 2 in round 4. Is this draft likely to be weak on QBs outside of those top 3?

Linebacker is absolutely the biggest hole on the team, but I really do not want the team to take one in the first round. Success rates between 1st round and 3rd round 4-3 linebackers is negligible. Hell, you still can find first- and second-year starters in the fifth round.

Positions I’d rather draft in the first assuming we go 7-9+.

1) Safety
2) Cornerback
3) Receiver
4) Interior defensive line
5) EDGE

I don’t know much about this draft, but unless the linebacker projects to be absolutely elite, I’d rather take one of these other^ positions.

I feel like with this offense (I saw on twitter we only had 4 WR active yesterday with 1 being Natson as a returner) and the receivers we already have, using a first on a receiver would be a waste. Unless we move on from OBJ or Landry or the WR on the board is BPA and head and shoulders above the rest remaining prospects. So I’m interested, why do you have receiver so high?

All fair points! I have two reasons:

1) I agree, receiver is not a clear need. Still, I think certain types of receivers would add more intricacy to Stefanski's offense. For example, look at what happened when the 49ers added Deebo Samuel. He did not run complex routes, but his use as a gadget guy allows Jimmy G to read coverages pre-snap. Samuel has made Jimmy G's (and Shanahan's) life easier by frequently putting him in motion and assuming the defense will track him.

2) To be more clear, I do not think receiver is a need, but I also am not sure our roster is at the point where we should only be drafting needs. Yes, linebacker is the biggest need, but you can find great 4-3 linebackers in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds. In fact, the odds of hitting on a linebacker in one of those rounds is not substantially lower than hitting on one in the first round.

On the other hand, positions like receiver that have a high demand early tend to see a steep decline in future success after the second round.

So, while I really do not believe receiver to be a substantially more important position than coverage linebacker, it is much easier to find a good coverage linebacker later than it is a receiver.

I absolutely think we should be drafting a receiver with a day one or day two pick next year. We've got two fantastic receivers, but after that basically nothing. DPJ is a flier at best and will probably never amount to anything, as is the case with most sixth round picks. If he pans out, that's wonderful, but you don't plan on it. I believe this also projects to be a pretty good WR class, but I don't really start following college prospects until the NFL season is over and dynasty leagues transition into the offseason, and most of the podcasts I listen to haven't started talking about college guys yet.

We also can't just assume both OBJ and Landry will be here a year from now. Or, even if they are here, injuries happen, and OBJ hasn't been the picture of health in his career.

I’d still have edge and DT as dual top needs. Edge moreso than DT. If Ogunjobi extends and Elliot flashes more and more throughout the season, that might lesson the priority on DT.

Basically feel like between FA and the draft we have to come away with at minimum one DE, DT, LB, CB, S

Would like us to address one of these with a quality FA addition, would like to see one or both of Ogunjobi and Joseph re-signed and then attack the remaining needs with a defensive heavy top 3 rounds of the draft

The only way I'm taking a WR in the first two rounds is if I believe he's the next Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss.

The focus at the top of the draft needs to be adding impact players on defense. We've invested heavily on the offense over the past two seasons. We need to find an elite talent on the defensive side of the ball, preferably in both rounds 1 and 2. While I'd prefer it to be at S or LB, it almost doesn't even matter what position.

What happens in FA could change things slightly, but I still believe the focus for at least the first two rounds will be the defense.

That being said, we aren't going to have both OBJ and Landry on the roster long term. One is going to have to go. It wouldn't shock me if we traded one of them in the offseason, in which case I'd be OK taking a WR in round 1 or 2, but don't think it'll hurt the team that much if we don't.
