Indians are almost certain to trade Lindor this off-season so why not a thread to keep all trade ideas and rumors in one location. I’ll start. I think the Mets new ownership will want to make a big splash this off-season and a Lindor deal would certainly grab the NYC tabloid headlines. Since the Tribe will will be looking to improve its horrid outfield, I would shoot high and ask for Nimmo and McNeil plus a prospect. Nimmo is first time Arby-eligible so the Mets may look to move him. McNeil can play all outfield plus 3b/2b making his versatility attractive. I think the Mets might ask for more than Lindor so I would consider adding Plutko or Tristen if the Mets prospect was much higher rated. Thoughts?

Nimmo being arbitration eligible would likely be a deal breaker for the Indians.

Guys with multiple pre-arb seasons left on their contract and prospects only, is my educated guess.

Should get a nice package but I think we should temper our expectations on a return, especially since Frankie wants to test Free Agency-- so he's basically a one year rental. Plus, he hasn't been great this year....

I am trying to remember who suggested the deal for DeJong of the Cardinals, but that would be an interesting idea in my mind.

Its probably within the St. Louis series thread...
September 8th in the Indians 2020 thread.. initiated by Edmonix..

I had it wrong.. Here is what was said..

Gson said:
Cards fans, especially in the comments section, but not limited.. are overvaluing their own (deJong?) while demeaning Lindor.. Just crazy stupid things like: "...deJong is worth more in trade than Lindor..." A deal for Lindor at the deadline is unlikely/not happening..
Edmonix said: Silly to think DeJong is better than Lindor but I would for sure do a Lindor deal with DeJong as the headliner though. His contract extension plus his production level is JRam-esque.

Throw in one of: Carlson, Bader, Gorman, Edman, O'Neill and maybe a lower level prospect or a pitcher and I'd think you'd have a deal.

I just think replacing Lindor with five years of DeJong keeps the Indians contention window wide open through Jose's and Bieber's contracts.

I mean, the Indians are gonna need to have somebody play SS after they trade Frankie, right? There's no internal options at the moment. DeJong's max payout over the next five years is $50M with only $21M guaranteed. He's probably worth close to $100M on the open market.

GSon said: as long as Jhon Torres and Tahnaj Thomas are carrying deJong's bags...blah blah.. and someone suggested that one of those guys were traded.. so the indians would be able to do that deal because Tahnaj wasn't available.. which I responded with, well, i want Gio Urshela and Clint Frazier and one other guy the Indians traded away back as well..

That's where it ended.. till now..

Something like Lindor to the Dodgers for Gavin Lux and Keibert Ruiz?

Would the LA even go for that?

I agree, but they're one of the few teams where Lindor presumably would not be a rental.

But maybe with that in mind they'd actually be LESS inclined to give up a big package of prospects.

Sorry but why would Cards trade DeJong (a Miguel Tejada comp) for Lindor? He’s roughly the same age and production at a fraction of what $ Lindor will seek in FA?

Teams who in theory could afford a Lindor mega-contract:

Dodgers. Seager signed through 2021
Giants. Crawford signed through 2021
Texas. Andrus signed through 2022
Boston. Bogaerts signed through 2025
Yankees. Torres Arby-1 in 2021
Mets. Rosario Arby-1 in 2021

Staying with St Louis for now (I actually like other teams for a deal.. none mentioned above)

St Louis' GM (jon mozielok) has a similar approach to valuation in trades. There would ONLY be one way a deal with the Cardinals would be possible.. extension must be included in the deal or no deal.. That extension could be created with the Indians being the club that actually inks the contract.. It wouldn't be a huge surprise to see the Cardinals need to send a $$ guy back to the Indians..like Matt Carpenter ( $ 18.75 MM for 2021 plus a $ 2 MM buy out for 2022) in order to get deJong and the prospect of our choice and a prospect the Cards like going back.. something like

Indians get: deJong + carpenter + one of edman/carlson/bader
Cardinals get: Lindor + one of Hentges/Allen

This results in a net zero change in money for the 2021 season:

Frankie = $ 24 - $ 27 MM for 2021
Carpenter w/ buyout + deJong = ~ $ 25 MM

Something like this.. w/ full understanding that the names of the add ins can change..

Edit: W/R to the Dodger's suggestion.. they like their own guy.. and for good reason.. If the Dodgers are going to extend anyone..it will be him.. It just costs money...

Good discussion..

Yeah, that was pre-Clevinger trade.

I think even the DeJong contract would be a no-go for the Tribe in this climate. Plus, DeJong kinda went on a bit of a skid this year too. Though, I still love the idea of a DeJong-like swap, I just don't really see it happening for the Indians or the Cardinals being interested in adding additional pieces. There's also probably more upside to be had with some lower level prospects.

Not with the Cardinals.. part of the reason I'm not a huge fan of a deal with them.. their prospect depth just isn't there..

I would take JD Davis (too replace Santana), Andres Giminez, Francisco Alvarez. Feel like the Mets could be baited into giving up major assets right now. Teams like the Yanks and Dodgers won't be desperate enough.

I also think Mets could be an ideal trade partner for reasons I earlier stated. Derek: good luck with your new job! Have enjoyed your thoughtful posts.
