Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How many Wiggins jerseys are you going to have to get rid of in order to make room? :chuckle:

Cowdick is all over Baker today too. Saying having OBJ and Landry throw two passes this season, shows he doesn’t trust him.....okay
Also think Baker almost blew the game for ya last week.

We are 4-1 and we won last week on bakers arm, having lost teller and Chubb.. Our defensive system keeps the other teams in the game. While we have had some star play on the defensive line, and Ward in critical moments, defensively we are swiss cheese to a good quarterback right now..

So Baker ain't the problem. He is good enough to drive Stefanski's ferrari offense and will get better at it. The passing defense has to get stops. And if that happens, we are going to compete for rings.. Baker and all.

I personally think the players understand that, and are all in on Stefanski, in a way Kitchens never achieved.

It's not as sexy, as the QB position, but what we really need to figure out is a defensive system that is comparable to our offensive system..

A ferrari is a finesse car. I’d say this offense more like a monster truck. We sort of grind other teams down. It’s the kind of offense you want if you are playing in Cleveland in January. And it doesn’t require a fancy driver either, but it does have it’s own challenging learning curve. I’m will to give Baker a full season with this offense before saying he can’t handle it. Well, maybe at least 10 games.

Here's the problem:

Baker is a capable, good NFL QB. The bigger question to me is can he lead a team to a Super Bowl win? I'm not sure yet. I think he's leaving SOME plays on the field, but I think ultimately he's doing more good than bad. You can point to a few throws and positions where he is a less than optimal QB. But I also see an elite QB in some other areas.

I disagree that Baker cannot make anticipation throws. I don't think he's good at anticipation throws that require good timing or quick post snap reads. That's something that can change with more time in the system and quality coaching.

I think we'll know, mostly, by the end of the year, if Baker will be worth his 2nd contract. And I feel like it's trending towards he'll be worth it.

100% agree, when you look at past qb's who are now elite, his numbers look good. Mahommes has spoiled us thinking suddenly that is what a 2nd through 4th year qb is supposed to look. His numbers are almost un heard of, Baker isnt Mahommes, doesnt mean he cant be very, very good though. Will he be, who knows, but he has looked pretty good all things considered, not great, but pretty good,.

Mayfield probably shouldn't have played today since everyone is hurt but I guess that doesn't matter to people nor the media.
