Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Beyond that, Baker was finally doing what he should have been doing: Taking what the defense gives him and keeping his eyes downfield.

One does wonder if OBJ does make Baker feel like he has to service him to keep him happy.

We always seem to give less chances on QBs. One bad game and talk about having a new qb. Let’s see how Baker bounces back. Just as coach said, we are going to lose games. But when we do, can we bounce back? It really is about how do we respond including Baker.
Baker bounced back :D
Very impressed especially after 0-5 with INT start as well and then 21 completions in a row with 5 TDs.

Thanks for the explainations. Makes sense that OBJ runs more complicated routes, with different branches at different speeds, and he probably has a license to adlib. The other guys are going to run simpler routes and make it easier for Mafield to get through his progressions.

It looked like a comfortable Mayfield was using better footwork, which helped him avoid those annoying overthrows we’ve seen so much this year.

Doesnt even make me mad anymore. This is how people like him make a living.

I use to dislike Collin too. But his “takes” haven’t been off about Baker so far, IMO. I just find his Baker obsession weird as hell. I think he talks about Baker every single day. That’s the sad part.

Agreed. And like I said, y’know why? Gets clicks and views. I know its cliche , but it’s cuz its true.

The fact that you think he’s been a diva expecting the ball every time the QB drops back shows you haven’t been paying attention.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether OBJ is or is not a diva in fact. If Baker himself feels that way, it's a problem. I'm personally not convinced that's the case, but it is entirely possible that they are just not a good fit through no fault of OBJ's. And if that turns out to be true, then you dump OBJ like a bag of dirt.

Yeah, and I’m not sure that this is the case, but it would make intuitive sense to me. But we’ll see more as the season continues, if Baker does look consistently better, then I think something about OBJ was causing problems. Still, we’ll see...

You can’t dump him if he’s seriously hurt. If her did indeed tear his ACL he’s done for the year and nobody is trading any value for him in the offseason with that contract. he would have to get back on the field and play to boost his value which means he’s definitely back next year.

Eh.

The Eagles would probably trade enough to take him off our hands.

He has not been good here. A shell of himself. When we are getting the same production from Rashard Higgins that we were getting from OBJ then it's time to move on.

On the year, Odell had a 75.4 grade from PFF. Landry was at a 73.6 going into the Bengals game. Those are solid #1 receiver numbers. I feel like the Steelers game is deeply engrained in the memory of Browns fans while all their best moments from before it are being forgotten.

Odell has been solid this season, and in a win where he was injured for the year, it's an odd time to talk about trades and some kind of exit strategy. Normal fans celebrate after an impressive last second victory. You are allowed to try it out, see how it makes you feel.

Nobody is going to trade anything for OBJ with a torn ACL

Nothing to add here, other than maybe waiting to move him until he’s healthy and had time to increase his value. He’s still an elite receiver that can fetch something in return.

Otherwise, agreed 1000%. OBJ is a hell of a receiver, but through 20+ games, he just hasn’t been a fit on the field. I definitely think he’s a hell of a teammate who still just wants to win, and hopefully other teams have been able to see that, as well.

Side note: I hope Jarvis is a Brown for life.
