Lindor trade ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
FWIW, I think the Nationals might be a darkhorse for Lindor as a total rental.

So, their business model has them deferring payments to guys left and right. Shit, they're paying Rafael Soriano and Joe Blanton each $2M next season. Soriano hasn't played for the Nats since 2014 and Blanton since 2017.

Here's their upcoming deferring commitments....

Raphael Soriano is getting $14M in $2M installments from 2018-2025
Max Scherzer has $15M a year deferred coming up starting in 2022 and ending 2228
Stephen Strasburg has $10M deferred coming up from 2022-2024 and $26.6M in 2026-2028
Matt Wieters is getting $5M in 2021
Daniel Murphy is getting $3M in 2021
Anibal Sanchez is getting $4M in 2021
Patrick Corbin is getting $10M a year from 2024-2026
Plus a 5 year, $10M personal services contract for Ryan Zimmerman after his career ends

Hell, when they made Bryce Harper the mega offer, they were differing money until he was 60 years old.

Anyways, time is approaching for them to pay up.... in a big way. Juan Soto, Trea Turner, Francisco Lindor and that pitching staff could make some waves in the NL East next year. I could see them go all in before they inevitably have to tear it all down in a year or two.

I know I should be able to piece it together from previous conversations in this thread, but which one is Law confirming it as with his LOL?

Way too much.

I mean, I agree..... Gurriel is obviously a younger and established MLB guy. Groshans is a stud prospect and close to untouchable. And Rikelvin de Castro is a 17 year old SS who recently signed with the Jays for $1.2M out of the Dominican.

Can maybe get 1-2 of these guys, though.

Posted to continue to temper expectations of any potential return. It's not gonna be huge but I think it can still be pretty good.... maybe more like the return for JT Realmuto than Mookie Betts?

Betts returned Verdugo, Downs, and Wong all the while relieving the Red Sox of Price's contract. Point is, if history is any indication, then you're wrong.

You don't "include" Civale in any kind of trade. Do you understand how good he's been and how valuable his contract currently is? You are way undervaluing him and I'm not sure why. Are you a Blue Jays fan? I think it's a safe bet to say that the Indians have no interest in Randal Grichuk and won't take on that $10.3M under any circumstance.

Gson posted a tweet that stated the Indians were looking to get 3 ready/near ready players in return. I mentioned that I would take 2 players ready to contribute now for Lindor and I think that is realistic as long as those 2 have tremendous upsides. Point is they're going to get a helluva lot more for Lindor than Clase and f'n DeShields. It's simply foolish to think otherwise. For 1 yr of Bauer, who wasn't worth nearly as much as Lindor at the time, netted them Reyes, Puig, Allen, Moss, and Nova.

I think the Angels are more interested in acquiring a SP than Lindor. Regardless, to suggest that Lindor could only get Marsh in a 1 for 1 deal is ludicrous. You could get Marsh and Detmers, but that's still not enough for Lindor.

Clevinger netted us Naylor, Quantrill, Arias, Cantillo, and Miller. While Clevinger is controlled longer, his value wasn't much more significant than Lindor's is. Both are difference makers, but Lindor is on the field for 160 games.

They will get much more than you're suggesting for Lindor. Why you ask? Because he's a top 5 player and they always do.
Agreed. No way you include civale or any other pitcher save Plutko who I think has value
In long relief and spot starter

Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla $1 annually as part of his deferred salary.

I'm hoping the announcement of an effective vaccine will convince owners that there will be butts in the seats this year and maybe more butts than usual after fans missed out going to all the games last year. Pent-up demand, IOW. If that's the case some owners may be less reluctant to shell out $20 million for a one-year rental shortstop and the Tribe may have more potential buyers in the market.

OTOH, if everybody lost tens of millions last year a lot of teams may want to keep payroll down next year to get back on solid financial footing. If there are going to be a lot of quality free agent shortstops available next winter teams may just decide to pass on Lindor and go with what they've got to recoup some losses and then get their permanent solution next year when all those shortstops will be competing with each other for the available money.

I'm with those who are less optimistic about getting top prospects for Lindor's 2021 season. Especially after he proved this year he's not a middle-of-the-order run producer. They put him in the 3-hole and he fell on his face. He's still got the glove, though, and with a normal season he should bounce back offensively.

I agree with going for quality over quantity. We just got six guys for Clevinger and four for Bauer, not counting Puig. Better to have three great outfielders than six decent ones.

Better get a lefty reliever in one of these deals - we're fresh out after letting Hand and Perez walk.

Just a reminder - the Tribe has 4 left handed pitchers on the 40 man already...
Since opportunities in the rotation are limited I suspect 1 or more of Logan Allen/ Sam Hentges/ Scott Moss will join Kyle Nelson as LH possibilities in the bullpen..

Thats the thing, all three of those guys they (the FO) said they want as starters. Most on here feel Hentges should be in the bullpen.

Honestly even within the organization we are very low on lefties all around. We will have to bring some in via free agency nonetheless.

Also it will be interesting to see how the bullpen continues to adapt to the 3 inning rule and how it adjusts the composition of it. Need all around better pitchers vs specialists. This can easily see a transition of solid, but unspectacular, SPs being transitioned into solid bullpen options. I could see the 2 inning pitcher becoming more of a trend vs LOOGY or ROOGY of old.

The FO is all about value & maintaining it. Until a player is getting a majority of their appearances & innings via the bullpen, the FO still talks about a pitching prospect being developed as a starter. Why undermine value when you might utilize the player in a deal (if not use for your own team)...

As for bringing in more lefties, I disagree.
The team has finite resources and spreading those limited resources across non-critical needs reduces what can be brought in for the critical needs..

Look who they have in the minors, if those three guys are going to be starters until the pro level, we actually have very few lefty pitchers in the system as well at least in the upper minors. We will bring in veterans to compete for the MLB bullpen spot who may end up at AAA to fill in that role there as well.

TribeFan57 offered: Reported teams interested in Francisco Lindor. NY Mets, NY Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, St Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves. Any guesses as to what would have to be offered in return? Also, Cleveland.com had an article that Carlos Carrasco may be added with Lindor.

someone named Vincent Parise had an article posted at Fansided for the Cubs.. The basis of the article was to generate interest in a trade that would improve the Cubs chances to retain their World Series core for one last go.. In that light.. they offered three potential trades for Lindor..

Some interesting names were mentioned.. perhaps not the one an Indians GM would start with.. Not one deal was presented where the Indians received an OF'er that is ml ready.. even though the Cubs # 2 prospect, Brennan Davis, is an incredibly athletic OF'er who could be at the core of a Lindor Trade.. A SS, a smallish LHP, etc.. guys that are interesting..but not the kind of "wow" prospects the Indians have to have to start the deal..

Thoughts?

A few new Lindor Trade suggestions

Baltimore:
-Gunnar Henderson SS (eta 2023), An oversized SS with some offensive / power upside.
-Ryan McKenna OF (eta 2020), A 4th OF'er type who out performs his talent
-Brenan Haniffee RHSP (eta 2021) A nothing special sinkerball/ground ball maker..
Note: Nothing in this "deal" interests me.. not one name mentioned

Boston
-Jeter Downs 2B (eta 2021) The second prospect in the Mookie Betts trade.. good futue
-Jarren Duran OF (eta 2021) A speed merchant OF.. on a good team 4th OF/defensive replacement.. on a bad team.. he's a prospect..
Note: The return in this deal is a bit light.. one more guy, at least, would be needed.

NYY
-Clarke Schmidt RHSP (eta 2021) Yankee hyped pitcher.. beware..
-Clint Frazier OF (eta 2020) Has improved his defense.. is past his concussion situation and can really swat.. His return to our wigwam would be big.
Note: Some other names besides Schmidt should be considered, none named Deivi..

Rays
Not happening.. doesn't matter..

Toronto
Interesting grouping...

Not enough for the best SS in the game for a team that intends to compete in the playoffs.
