Traded: Javale McGee

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LBJ needs to clear cap space- Cavs oblige.

pretty easy- frankly I don’t have an issue with it.

Eventually, LeBron will own the Cleveland Cavaliers... Will he own the Ohio Valley as well? Hard to tell... probably too soon. But I expect a friendly relationship between Dan Gilbert and the GM of the Lakers.

If I thought that this was to help the Lakers, I'd root against the Cavs moving forward.

I'm a Cavs fan, not a LeBron fan. And if the owner of the franchise is putting LBJ's interests ahead of the interests of the team's...fuck him and the team he owns.

But I don't believe that, because I think the deal makes sense from the Cavs perspective regardless of the team with whom we made it.

ETA: We made the same general sort of deal with Milwaukee. Yes, it helped them out, and LBJ didn't play for them. But it also helped us out, so...why not?

It's interesting that the expiring contract are far more value these days then second rounders (rightfully so)

Need a backup PG and we are good. That is a whole team everything fits a little better now.

So what's the plan for center next year? Both Drummond and Mcgee are expiring, didnt draft a big man this year.

Obviously trading will always be an option but these are the Free Agent PF/C in 2022

Unrestricted FA:
Drummond
Steven Adams
Richaun Holmes
Lamarcus Aldridge
Daniel Theis
Boban Marjonic

Restricted FA:
John Collins
Mitchell Robinson
Zach Collins

Guys who could maybe be available for trade might be:

Clint Capela
Myles Turner

A lot of the guys who signed two year deals this weekend like TT, Harrell, Ibaka, and some other have player options so some of them may be on the market as well.

I'm so surprised people are against this move. We needed a backup center that plays solid defense. Is he a long term solution...No....but it will allow the young guys and Drummond that they need to play better defense.

Ain't yall tired of the opponent having a wide open layup/dunk in the middle when our center ain't nowhere to be found I know I am.

I wouldn't be surprised, if the Cavs were last in points allowed in the paint the last two seasons. Teams were feasting in the paint, including the sorry teams and we couldn't stop it at all.

Maybe,JaVale can get in Drummond's ear and tell him he needs to step up his game because Drummond seem lost sometimes,if he's not stealing the ball or rebounding on defense.

Like, many have said, the Cavs will most likely try to trade him for a pick.

The Cavs need to get a veteran point guard next...

Overall think we are fairly good shape
several options

we are at about 116m in salaries with 42m of expiring . Possibly can trade the expirings for younger players or young veterans and picks as long as we don't take back bad salary layers. Drummond and the cavs come together on salary. Could use the savings if we let the expirings walk to sign a few players. In addition we likely have 2 first rounders next year ours likely lottery pick( think if we make playoffs we lose pick) and the Bucks likely late 1st round.

One of the consistent mantras about the current NBA is that the center position is devalued. If that is correct, then it shouldn't be too difficult for the Cavs to replace Drummond and McGee for next season without it causing a major problem.

They got the ability to sign Gasol.

Yes...but should we not do a move that benefits us simply to screw over a team against whom we really aren't even competing? That's the kind of logic that may end up with Ainge having screwed over his own franchise just to spite Hayward.

I don't think we should do it for the purpose of helping another franchise...but I also don't think we should screw ourselves just to screw another team that it is on a completely different competitive timeline.
