2020 College Football Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you assume that all those scholarships would disappear if football wasn't played in the fall for this one season, that's true. But I don't think that is true, and there are a ton of schools other than Big 10/AAU schools that have cancelled fall sports but not wiped out all athletic scholarships.

You can follow the running list of sports being cut by university in above link. To your point, for one season, they'd likely be able to maintain, certainly at a P5 school. But if football were permanently cut?? Scholarships for sports would dwindle compared to what it is today.

I personally, see nothing wrong with giving football additional attention this fall, to make it as safe as possible, and then allowing other fall sports to continue in the Spring (if they don't have a delayed start in fall). If a non-revenue generating athlete doesn't understand the significance of what the football team does for them, they should immediately be forced to take a finance class as punishment.

Beyond enjoying college football as a product more than any other sport, the fact these kids generate so much revenue for all other scholarship athletes, without being fairly compensated, is a testament to them. Even without being fairly compensated, these first rd NFL draft picks are screaming "we want to play like the rest of the P5". And they're being ignored.

I like college football more than any other college sport as well, but I still don't think the personal feelings of those athletes are any more important than anyone else's.

I get where you're coming from....I'd just simply state, many of those other college scholarship athletes, wouldn't have scholarships, if not for the football team. So yeah, I hold them in higher regard. The average college football player is not going to the NFL. The average college player still generates a shitload of revenue by being a cog in the wheel that produces hundreds of millions of dollars a year to fund the rest of the athletic department. While risking their personal health (which they do beyond Covid-19 every time they strap up). So yeah, I do hold college football players in higher esteem. And that's not a slight to any other non-revenue generating sport....just my opnion.

Fair enough. I just can't elevate one kid's career aspirations or love of playing as any more worthy than that of any other kid. Just because you're a better athlete than someone else doesn't make your feelings more important.

Don't really know what else there is to say on that.

I didn't say a better athlete....there is a difference. A kid on the track team could be an absolute freak of an athlete. But without football, that kid who runs track, likely only has a handful of options to pick from out of high school. And the non-freak track athletes careers end after HS because there aren't enough resources to support a track program that loses money.....so again, yeah, I hold football players up on a bit of a pedestal. They create opportunities for thousands of other student athletes annually, that wouldn't get the opportunity to compete at the college level, without the revenue generated by football.

Purely in terms of completing the fall football season, that's not a bad thing. The diseases was always going to hit the colleges eventually. The earlier it hits, the more likely it'll burn it's way through and let the season be completed afterwards.

Obviously, that's leaving aside whatever damage is done by the disease to those who get sick.

I think schools can only tolerate so much, even Alabama has said that once they run out of quarantine room they will have to switch to online only. That might happen this week. Lets remember that the people making the decisions also live in the college towns and are older. They might want football and to keep the school open but the risk to themselves and the community will out weight any of that at some point.

This sets up nicely for a playoff conisisting of the 4 power 5 conference champions squaring off. It takes all of the other stuff out of it. With no Pac Ten there are 4 conference champs. Write-em in and let's go.

Well there was a lot of chatter about Mertz being Wisconsin's best QB since Wilson and he lived up to the hype last night.

So glad the Big Ten is back. It finally feels like college football season. I haven’t been able to get as into this season without the Big Ten.

Ho lee fuk. The Indiana PSU game.

Texas beat OK. State, which all but ends the Big 12 chances. Ok State hadn't been impressive to begin with and there's about a zero percent chance they run the table from here on out.

Cincinnati is gonna make it.

And the three other favorites would paste Cincy... 1 seed is a must this year but OSU has almost no shot at it.

'This was never an easy path': Sarah Fuller and the winding road to two-sport immortality (espn.com)

So great:

“If I’m going to be honest, I was a little pissed off at how quiet everybody was on the sideline,” Fuller told Cronin. “We made a first down, and I was the only one cheering and I was like – what the heck? What’s going on? And I tried to get them pumped up, and I was like, ‘You guys need to start [cheering] your team on.’

“My main thing was during the SEC tournament, my entire team was cheering the entire time. It didn’t matter if we were in the locker room or if they were on the sidelines, I think that’s what won it for us. Everybody was cheering non-stop. I just went in there, and I said exactly what I was thinking. I was like, ‘We need to be cheering each other on. This is how you win games. This is how you get better by calling each other out for stuff, and I’m going to call you guys out.’

So a substitute kicker at her very first football game chews out her temporary teammates because they don't cheer incessantly like a girls' soccer team.

Oh yeah, I'm sure that went over well.... I especially liked "We need to be cheering each other on. This is how you win game." My question is, since both sides in a girl's volleyball game cheer over every single point, how does anyone ever lose?

good for her. She stepped up, tried to cheer on her team, and tried to lead (on a team that clearly sucks dick). If I was on that vandy team i would be fucking embarrased I was called out like that, and they should be.

It’s all BS. I don’t believe for a minute that happened.

As a substitute kicker who literally ran off the field after kicking it so nobody would try to block her, she had no business telling her publicity stunt teammates who have been banging heads for months what it takes to win football games. Really, cheering every single fucking play like an 8th grade girls' volleyball team is "how you win football games??"

Completely ridiculous.
