I think right up there with the most important traits for successful head coaches is to be open minded and willing to adapt to new information.

This is the reason I was optimistic about Kitchens, because he was saying all the right things about doing just that, and seemed to be calling plays that suited our personnel as OC.

Then he just...didn't do any of that at all and instead did the exact opposite, calling plays that our personnel was uniquely ill suited to run.

I'm ecstatic that Stefanski appears to be the real deal.

Agreed. The other thing about Stefanski is that he seems to have almost negative ego. I can't remember a single time this season when he took credit for himself. Every single time he's complimenting his players and assistant coaches and deflecting all of it from himself.

Without that mindset, I'm not sure if we stomp Pitt like we did.

I love me some Stefanski. BUT...

WTF, is the dude suffering from Covid brain or something today? Shitty job of calling the game today IMO.

Failed to utilize Hunt. Some horrible play calling throughout the game leading to fizzled drives, especially the last drive that could have won the game. In my view the decisions made by Stefanski were just weak especially on the final failed drive.

I dont want to turn this into a rehash of the game thread however, the decision to punt wasnt terrible (i know what some twitter bot has to say about it). But the browns defense was actually pretty good in the second half and with Henne at QB for the chiefs the browns defense just needed to step up and stop the chiefs from getting 2 first downs.

Instead well. The browns defense shit themselves. I am not one to call for a coach to be let go after 1 year, but I seriously debate letting Joe Woods go. Going against the back up QB for the Chiefs and on 3rd and 14 you cant get a stop.

My issue with Stefanski is this... You have to put together one scoring drive to go to the AFC championship game. He blew it, the offense blew it. As much as I absolutely love Stefanski, this tempers my opinion. I just thought his play calls were off all day long and he was outcoached by the KC defensive coach.

As for Woods I'm pretty meh about him but he isn't the worst we've had here considering the injuries and lack of talent on that side of the ball. Reed outsmarted him at the end. Denzel Ward must have been really feeling the post covid effects because he was mediocre at best, but he gets a pass from me cause of the 'rona.

Stefanski the man and what he did. Amazing job.

Kitchens, Pettine, Chud, Hue, Shurmur, Butch, Romeo, Mangini.... I mean Yikes.

Sucks that the season ended the way it did. We had a chance. I disagree with the punt... I disagree with some of the weird calls...

But I have much faith in KS to do some great shit for a long time.

I really thought we were going to score after INT. Love him to death for what he brought to the team this year but this might be his worst play calling so far. ugh, this one will haunt us for a while.

He'll process this lost and grow after it and do great things for a long time.

It’s far and away the best team we played all year... when it comes to play calling, there are soft spots where we found success against other teams and with lower stakes that won’t come as naturally. There were a few questionable game management calls that we literally didn’t see all year long that I’m certain he’ll hold himself accountable to, but none that truly changed the game. Our defense being unable to get a stop when it was most needed was the difference, not the in game coaching. When you lose because your weakest element is exposed, you tip your cap and look to improve it in the off-season.

He had a masterful rookie coaching season. Plenty to build on and learn from.

Stefanski didn't really do anything well today whether it was game plan, calling plays, or managing time outs. But overall this season, he's been the best Browns coach since Belichick, so all I can do is hope he learned from it.

We also couldn't pass or run effectively with the hot dog vendor protecting Baker's blind side.

Just sucks that we lost our starting LT, Wills, on the first play. Our second LT, Hubbard, was already out. Our third LT, Lamm, came in then got hurt himself. So I'm pretty sure the "Hance" jersey just gets handed to whatever fan wants to get on the field and help out.

We were a Higgins fumble, a Ward slip, or a Chubb drop away from shocking the world. It hurts now, but that's a damn good first year.

Yea good point.

He's a rookie head coach and was beaten by a first ballot HoF coach. I know Reid gets memed on for clock management but he's one of the best playcallers ever and one of the best QB whisperers ever.

It's ok that Stefanski wasn't up to the task today.
