2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I guess it depends on how he measures out.

He’s listed at 6’6 200 lbs, which seems quite small, but his rebounding and block numbers suggest he plays bigger than that.

Historically, 100% of major conference players who averaged at least 13 rebounds per game have been drafted #1 overall (Tim Duncan and Blake Griffin) :chuckle:

SCottie Barnes trending up, no?

He started shooting more 3's and his advanced stats are getting there.

I still think he is a bit erratic on the defensive end when he has to defend off the ball...particularly on his close outs and rotations. He seems to close out too hard and doesn't slide and recover all that well.. but because he is so aggressive at closing out, but I will say, it seems to be an FSU thing this season and could be part of a scheme; however, I would still expect him to be better than that.

I just really like his profile with the Cavs team. He has a lot of potential imo.

15-20, seems like a safe assumption it is a wing or PF at this point.

Three guys who really fit in that range and have good analytical profiles for true NBA SF's:

Wagner, Wilson and Watford.

Franz specifically has metrics that are just in the stratosphere for a SF.

He just does everything well. He's a plus guy with and without scoring. NBA size. Competitive. Young for his grade.

Still can't believe the lag on his prospect shine, especially playing in the B1G.

@Sir'Dom Pointer my stuff has really started warming to Barnes.....but with his talent level, I doubt we realistically have a shot at him. If he stays on this recent trend line, everything I have says he is probably a top 5 pick in this draft.

Yep. Which sucks cause he would fit like a damn glove on this team.

I don't know what to say. Cavs are too good right now. But if we could add a high lottery pick...we would be set for the future. Argh.

Franz looks really good statistically speaking, but I'm not sure he is who I want on this team. Something stiff about him. He is a swiss army knife on offense and is statistically good on defense, but I want someone athletic like Barnes to fill in that SF/PF spot. I think that's a better fit on this team.

Too bad we can't make the playoffs and still get Kumminga. Greg Brown might still realistic. Even at 500 Scottie Barnes is probably long gone by the Cavs pick. Have to readjust. This pick could even be traded for a young player already in the nba too.

Too bad.

I thought Scottie Barnes would be the consolation prize (to Mobley,Suggs, etc) if we exceeded expectations, and now even that is not possible? I'm getting shit on left and right.

I don't want Greg Brown.

What kind of player do you have in mind? that we could trade for?

In the context of Franz being a legit 6’9”, he seems like a very good athlete to me, especially laterally. He is excellent keeping guys in front of him and then using his length to block and challenge shots. Guys don’t get to 5 plus BLK+STL per 100 without discernible defensive skill, especially in a conference like the B1G. I think he has the lateral and length combo to be a good NBA defender. Isolate to his conference numbers too there......typically as competition stiffens numbers get worse but Franz has actually been even better defensively in conference, which is pretty amazing.

I unfortunately think he will play his way out of our draft range though. Analytically, he is seriously just way out there. I would imagine as the dust settles and people see his size, production, youth that he’s going to be a big riser. I’ll post some comparative profile comps when I get a chance this weekend.

I wouldn’t be too discouraged by picking in the middle of this draft. I’ll pull down some more data over the next few weeks but this is going to be a really, really good draft. And picking 18-20 in this draft is going to be comparable, IMO, to drafting in the top 10 last year. The quality of prospect in that range is just so good still. And the Cavs will have choices between well rounded guys who can play immediately or more of a lottery ticket.

I have not watched him outside of some highlights quite frankly. His build kinda puts me off. And I have this vision of who I want on this team and how the Cavs should optimally look. Pretty superficial by me I suppose.

I'll be patiently waiting for your data. I have not really scouted this draft like I had initially wanted. Things got in the way. But I do have my favorites which look to be outside of the Cavs range, so will be interesting to see the stats on players outside the lottery. I read that it is a good Sophomore and Junior class.

Do you know anything about Alperen Sengun? He's an 18-year-old big threatening to lead the Turkish league in points, rebounds, and blocks per game. Wasn't really on my radar, but he's crept up to #26 on ESPN's big board, #8 among bigs, so he clearly got someone's attention.

Nope. First time hearing about him lol.

Plus vision and passing. Plus length. Rebounds well for a SF. Would be good in transition and alongside a strong scoring guard.

These two players are described the same way in style / skill in draft profiles and they are very similar analytically.

I hid some of the stats that are easier to google. :chuckle: Who is this?

Was gonna guess Cade, but I don't think he gets that many steals. Who?

What do you guys think of Terrence Shannon, Jr.? If his 3P shot can come around he seems like he’d be a good 3&D and good fit here.

On the flip side, Ron Harper Jr. If he got a little leaner, can he play good enough team defense to be an interesting pick?
