2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As much as I love Sexton, the only player under 6’4” to lead their team to a championship in the last 30 years was Curry...and he didn’t even win Finals MVP. If they want to be actual Contenders they’ll either need a star with length or to become the mythical 00’s Pistons. That being said, I am 100% happy with the teams trajectory.

What about both iterations of the Pistons Championship teams. Not hard to argue that Isaiah and then Billups were, if not the top player on their respective teams, then at least on equal ground with some of the other top talent of their teams

And those teams play together and dish out some nasty D...

That’s why I said last 30 years because before that was Isaiah and a completely different league. I mentioned the Billups team as an extreme outlier, but I guess it shows it is possible.

The Bad Boys Pistons, the 2000s Pistons, and the pre-Durant Warriors are 3 examples. So it doesn't happen often, but there's a better chance of the Cavs being the 4th example than of them finding the next LeBron, Jordan, or Duncan.

Not to mention that what's happened in the past has zero bearing on what happens in the future. Perimeter play has never meant more to a team's success than it does today. Worrying about the height of a team's best player seems pointless, and ruling that team out from ever winning a championship because of it ridiculous.

Obviously we can't throw away the rebuild because the best players the team was able to get a hand on are under 6'4".

But if a star becomes available, and you have a good culture with solid trade pieces, maybe you do what Toronto did when they rented Kawhi for a championship run.

Very impressed with nance. He's gotten a bit more aggressive offensively and is really giving me that 'boris diaw' spurs vibe. I think his game will age really well and he can be part of this team growing up for the next 5 years. He has a decent shout at all NBA defence this year

During the last two seasons LBJ was here, the regular season often was a chore to watch. Team didn't put out consistent effort, there was infighting, and you'd have a knot in your stomach worried about whether the Cavs could turn it around by the playoffs. It was unpleasant.

This Cavs team has made the regular season - which is the vast majority of games - actually fun to watch again. It is so much easier to just enjoy the game for itself now.

That is right on point. Even the championship Cavs (maybe especially those Cavs) were frustrating, and when the regular season bad habits really reared their ugly head it was in the Finals going down 3-1.

The Nets looked poised to have a season similar. Where they play half paced in some games, turn it on and win most of them, but have a few get away.

Terrific defensively, an excellent passer, and the 3-point shot is really coming along. He's becoming the classic "3-and-D" guy. Now he needs to get more aggressive taking it to the rim and finishing. I'd like to see him get a little stronger on the defensive glass as that is a weakness for the Cavs this season and his rebounding numbers are low. I get that he's challenging a lot of shots and he lacks bulk, but I'd still like to see him use his quickness and leaping ability to pull in a few more boards.

I'd love to see him develop into Dennis Rodman with a 40% three-point shot. (Actually, he's at 44.4% on 3's this year).
