Car Advice

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lots of you must like having your cars in the shop mentioning Land Rovers, BMWs and Jeeps.

Yota gang for life here. Love my Tacoma and I can’t give up my old Corolla. Still runs like a champ and nothing but regular service issues.

Maybe one day I’ll get something fun. Corolla GR looks intriguing...

I've owned a Land Rover and a Grand Cherokee. Neither of them were ever in the shop over the span of four years.

Maybe I am lucky. Maybe their reliability issues are overstated.

I did have an Infinity G37 though that was in the shop a bit. And an Audi that does the same.

To completely steal @Sebastian 's thunder, anyone have suggestions for a large, AWD SUV? It would be mainly for the wife, but we're basically going to go to a single-car household... with me keeping my Focus ST because I love my hot hatches too much.

I've always viewed the Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7 as the two go-to's in this class. We'd probably buy used, just because I hate buying a non-electric car right now, and there aren't many good, big electric options at reasonable prices.
Fellow ST owner here. Same issue, I now need a more family car, unfortunately I don't have room to keep the ST. I've been trying to hunt for a late model wagon, like the Cadillac wagon they used to make, or Volvo, Subaru, etc that is at least a little sporty. Can't bring myself to go full SUV. Can't afford the EV route just yet, either.

Have you had the Land Cruiser??

I have never heard anyone complain about Subraru.

They are well liked in the PNW and Alaska.

Likewise. My Prius is almost 10 years old and has 161K miles, and it seems like it's just getting broken in. My wife's Camry is nine years old and ~110K miles. Both of them have been super reliable - routine maintenance, the occasional small repair or new set of tires, and that's been about it.

Probably not an issue if you lease or buy every few years -- but if you want a car that lasts forever, Toyotas are tough to beat. Highly recommended.

No. They used to be cool and still are but they became too big and too overpriced. If you're going to spend that much on a vehicle, get the Lexus LX 570 which is basically the same car.

Land Cruisers will be gone starting next year I believe as Toyota won't be bringing them to the US anymore.

Pity.

There are already too few options for those who require actual off-roading capability.

My daily driver is a 2018 Subaru Outback. It's great. I have the 3.6 six in it and for me now being retired it's perfect. It does a lot of things well. Plus it's reliable and the subarus keep their value and used ones are in strong demand.

I got my ex wife a Subraru, she loves it.

And no, she isn't suddenly a lesbian or play in the WNBA now.

Subarus are fine if you don't plan on keeping them more than 5-6 years. Pain in the ass to work on, and guaranteed head gasket replacements before 100k miles.

As a lesbian and someone who beats women in basketball on the reg, the stereotype is true.

Need some guidance here. My wife’s grandpa bought a car in 2018.
Financed it in only his name. He passed in 2019. His wife kept it and continued to pay on it as it was needed to get around. She passed away last week. We go in a couple weeks to probate her will and stuff and we have no clue what we can or need to do with this car and the payments.
The car isn’t registered to her nor is her name on the financing.
It’s financed through GM and bought through a local Chevy dealer.
Can we just take it there to the dealer and hand the keys over and say peace out or what.

It depends.

As the spouse she is the successor to his interest in the vehicle and on the hook for the loan because a married couple's finances are generally communal property. Because she continued to make payments it can be argued that she is a party to the loan.

In that case, if GM wants to be shitty they can make a claim against the estate to payoff the loan or repo the car.

I think you can negotiate with them though:

1) You can assume the loan and make payments and keep the car. Or if a relative wants it.
2) Return the car and the loan is usually cleared.

In reality yes, you can do that.

Technically they can sue your grandfather's estate but if it has been settled, there isnt much recourse for the finance company.

What I would do is call the finance company and explain the situation. They are really seperate from the GM dealership and might want to just come pick it up themselves.

Dont let them bully anyone into taking the car back if you dont want it, you have no legal obligation, its your grandfather's estates issue and if his estate is settled, the wife was the one in the wrong not you.

If you dont know who the finance company is, then call the place where he bought it. let us know how it turns out, kind of interesting.
