Signing Mazara would be cool for no other reason than he could held up as a Ghost of Christmas Future for Rosario if he doesn't get his shit together.

Unlikely with the Gamel & Hamilton signings & .....

Thats correct, every team signs minor league free agent literally every year.

It actually never fails.

Not every team sticks them in the lineup for half a season until they have to cut them when they could be letting someone younger with more upside get those swings.

C'mon CATS. You mean to tell me that you're going to use elite power hitting IFers to support your argument. So I should expect Gimenez to develop the same kind of power that Ramirez and Lindor have? It's a rhetorical question, because everyone knows what the answer is.

Also, there might not be 9 guys in the league that can do that, yet somehow you want to fill an entire lineup with that type of hitter. You'll be lucky to have 2, and if you don't have some power in the lineup to capitalize on the few mistakes that good pitchers make then you aren't going to score much.
Um, Ramirez and Lindor literally came up as contact hitters with doubles power, not elite home run hitters.

Who is major league ready in the minors that has higher upside?

Probably the guys you already know -- Daniel Johnson, Bradley and Bauers are the potential answers to your questions....mystery and minor intrigue surrounds them all/none are locks for performance.
Nolan Jones will eventually arrive, but none of the aforementioned are likely to block him if they think he is ready to go after a few months of AAA.

A few thoughts...

1) Since he arrived here, Tito has been very open in his desire to protect young and inexperienced hitters from the cold weather in Cleveland in April. The early roster decisions he has made have backed that up. Its more than merely service time manipulation.

I really don't expect Gimenez, Johnson, or any other rookie position player to open the season in Cleveland. The only exception may be Bradley.

2) Anybody who watched Zimmer play in the outfield last year knows that his days as a full time CF are over, if it can be avoided. Having Hamilton, on the roster or stashed in Columbus means it can be avoided.

4) Talk of Johnson being a full time CF has been beat to death. Suffice it to say that no evaluation I have seen suggests that he can adequately play there. There is a difference between being considered a CF, and being considered a corner OF with the ability to line up in center.

5) I never have a problem with veterans being brought in for a look see. All it costs is meal money. Bring 'em on. I especially have no problem when they play positions for which we have zero MLB ready prospects in AAA.

According to Roster Resource, these are are AAA options for CF...

Chris Roller....thats it. If you've never heard of him, don't feel bad. Until five minutes ago, neither did I. He is org filler we picked up from the Dodgers in December.

How about AA?

Kwan
Austin Wade

Kwan we know. He is a low level minor prospect that will be Rule Fived, unless there is a monstrous turnover in the roster, or we trade away several high end prospects soon.

Austen Wade...more filler.

Hamilton is one of the worst hitters in baseball, but he can still run balls down in center, and he can still run the bases. I've never been a fan, but he is viable with his defense.

6) Everybody in baseball knows everybody else's situation. There may be differences in evaluations, but not in overall situations.

Every GM knows that, until this week, we had one true defensive CF in our org. Everybody also knows that Cincinnati is the last team standing without a viable shortstop. (I don't count Pittsburgh as a real MLB team.)

We have tons of shortstops. But we now also have a second defensive CF. IF all the speculation about the Reds wanting Rosario had legs, the ball is in Cinci's court.

Your first point is valid concerning Gimenez, but Daniel Johnson will be turning 26 this year. He's hit the cover off the ball in both AA and AAA, so this team needs to see what they have in him. Unless he has a miserable spring training, there's no reason why someone like Ben Gamel, who is a below average hitter for his career (95 wRC+ over five seasons) should be on the Opening Day roster over him.

The top MiLB deal from an AB perspective LY was Domingo Santana (84)

2019: Freeman (177)

There is really no need to exaggerate this stuff. It's fine, literally every team utilizes this process.

I agree in the case of DJ, but only if he has a role (not a bench guy...being blocked by E. Rosario and Naylor in the Corners).

Guys like Carlos Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez where way over played. Bringing back Rajai Davis in 2018. They also don't sign all of them, but guys like Delino Deshields fall into the same bucket in my eyes. Just older players with no future who suck are a waste of time. I would rather see a younger player from our system or even another system even if he is a big gamble (like some of the young guys that teams have gotten off of us like Urshela, Aguilar, Santander, etc for little or nothing... try to get some players off other teams) Thats just my preference to clear it up, you can be cool with Billy Hamilton getting 300 abs, that's fine. I'm not trying to go round and round about this, I borderline checked out on this organization years ago.
