2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought I heard that Lewis was going to be in the mix for the OF this year (post Twins signing of Andrelton Simmons).. Welp they better hope Buxton can remain healthy this season (for once)...

The twins bad luck (Lewis' injury) could open a spot for Jackie Bradley Jr as a FA signing even as late as this week.. Behind Buxton..the twins have nothing that comes close to resembling a center fielder..

The twins may be able to acquire a DeShields or other defense first cf'er that could find their way to the waiver wire too.. lots of options.. none all that great.. unless the twins want to spend... For a contending team.. that could be their best path to completing their team..

We'll see..

Kid should demand a trade if he's not on the Opening Day roster.

On one hand its service time manipulation.

On the other hand, this is a 21 yr old kid with very little pro experience, none in AAA.

It has become crystal clear, service time manipulation will be one of if not the top consideration when a new agreement between the players and MLB gets hammered out.

I dont know how anybody could 'prove' that a prospect is ready to hit the ground running in MLB.

If the Players Association wants to decide when a kid is ready, maybe they should propose that service time is extended an extra year if the kid doesn't produce in his first full season.

That ain't gonna happen, because neither side gives a rats backside.

It is not about being ready to play MLB baseball, it is about retarding the future earnings of an employee. The Union won't stand for that any longer, curious to see what the new system/compromise churns out.

I thought it was about winning baseball games...and sustaining success.

Again, is the PA going to demand that it be able to set rosters?

That is the logical conclusion, that the players themselves will decide when they are ready for the Bigs.

It makes sense for an organization to attempt to get the maximum production from its younger players. Why pay for on the job training, when waiting a while in order to get on the field production makes a lot more sense?

Again, we are talking about a 21 yr old kid with less than 100 PAs in AA declaring himself ready to play in MLB.

Sez who?

He was an 18 draftee who doesnt have to be added to the 40 man roster until 23. He would have split time normally between high A and AA in 20. So AA and AAA in 21 then AAA and pros in 22, at least with a normal development cycle. Very, very rare to see a player anymore before the age of 22 up in the pros, so a cup of coffee in 21 could happen, but I don't see him making the pros until 22 with a normal progression.

Great sign, looking forward to seeing him this year.

Would love it if they bring him over to the Arizona League later this year if he performs well enough in DSL, this was a pretty good sized signing for them.

With the new player limits on how many players an organization can have 'stateside' in its minors (IIRC its now capped at 180), it will be interesting to see how CLE approaches the setup of the minor league teams/ extended spring training/ players drafted this yr/ etc.

Whew! Thank God we beat them to the punch on Billy Hamilton then.

Dylan Crews is absolutely going to crush at LSU.

This dude is such a fun player, he’s not even eligible until 2023, but he could be a national name by then given how much hype he’s getting now.

College baseball needs stars, and guys like this and Kumar Rocker/Jack Leiter at Vandy are two others.

Would anyone participate in/read an MLB Draft / College Baseball thread?
