2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In the spring of 2014 in Arizona, Callaway met a married woman when she accompanied her son to seek an autograph. She gave Callaway her phone number in the spring of 2015, she says, because Callaway offered to come to her son’s T-ball game and needed directions. As avid baseball fans, she and her husband were initially thrilled.

The woman and Callaway began an affair that was consensual and included Callaway sending her explicit photos and at least one lewd video. The relationship ended when the woman’s husband found out in February 2017. When her husband confronted Callaway via text about the situation, Callaway texted back that he had to inform MLB security because his cell phone was “company property.” (The Athletic viewed this exchange.)

I realize you came here in bad faith, and I hate to pile on. But due respect, what the fuck are you talking about when you say there is no evidence?
First, you should't pretend to know a thing about anyone's intentions. Second, trying to up your game with the F word just makes you look stupid in my book. If Mick did something wrong, he should pay as clearly stated in prior posts. There are accusations about his behavior and how it was handled and if it was an internal issue. I'll let due process play out and people will pay a price for what was done. I won't pretend to be connected or let social media posters get me all emotional about how everything is jacked up. Innuendo and accusation isn't fact and the court of public opinion isn't due process. Callaway may very well be trash but he and the club are entitled to due process.

Trying to denigrate someone because they use vulgarity isn't exactly a starting point that reeks of intelligence. If you think people who use "fuck" for emphasis look stupid, that's your own problem--not theirs.

It boils down to it has been reported that there is evidence. You acted like there wasn't any. You were in the wrong.

Most people, when shown this information, would say "Oops, my bad. I didn't know. Thanks for pointing it out to me."

You coming on here to say there is no evidence after not doing the research, and then having to backtrack like this after I showed you the evidence, doesn't make me look stupid.

First hand accounts aren't "innuendo" or "accusations," they're evidence of the truth. You can't tell me to read the Athletic so I can see some perceived lack of evidence, and then not dignify their reporting which provided a bevy of evidence.

Fuck is just a word, by the way.

Also, I've mentioned nothing about the Indians involvement, so lets not change the subject and pivot so you can explain something to me that I'm already well aware of.

I just see no reason to not have some class. I don't need to swear at someone on a mesage board. You can have an engaging conversation without it. I think it's clear that it's murky at best about what the team knew then vs. what may be known now. That's been the point the whole time. Twitter and The Athletic are great about talking about the affair and external things to bolster their non specific mention of what was going on in the club.

Why is certain language "classless" to you?

It's fucking language. It's how we communicate. You clearly understood his point. Go put on some god damned George Carlin albums and come out of the 1950s.

You can have an engaging conversation without the word "fuck." You can also have an engaging conversation without using the letter "i," but I wouldn't ask someone to do it for me.

Oh, and stop trying to obfuscate the point. You said there was no evidence--just allegations. It has been reported that there is evidence. When someone lets you know that you're wrong, and you refuse to acknowledge that point, that shows the world a whole lot more negative information about a person than crass language.

We haven't been told there's evidence of the pictures.
In late 2016 or early 2017, he sent an unsolicited full-frontal nude picture of himself in a locker room to the friend of another woman he was involved with sexually, according to someone who saw the photo and asked about it. The friend worked in the Indians organization at the time.

You fucked up. Be a man and own it.

When the Astros story broke, it was Mike Fiers and other anonymous sources, and that was it.

I understand how this is likely going to play out organizationally. My comment wasn't really directed at that, but rather at the notion that it just wasn't something worth talking about here anymore.

Like, triple digit posts about a hypothetical Jose Ramirez trade return that has been shut down as even being a possibility is acceptable, but discussing legitimate breaking news wasn't. Found it odd.

Oh I definitely think it's worth talking about. The Indians are my favorite Cleveland sports organization - by far - and this situation absolutely sucks and I hope there's a ton of discussion generated on how to fix this.

All I'm really saying is I don't think Antonetti/Francona should go unless some concrete evidence comes out that they knew about Callaway's actions beyond the consensual extramarital affair The Athletic reported.

I was speaking in terms of inside the club and investigations into any wrongdoing. I made this distinction in nearly every other post. I did that because I don't care what happened outside the club. All of the posts I made on the subject seperated what was inside the club and outside the club. If it wasn't clear in that exchange so be it.

Yeah I agree so far. I do think, unfortunately, that Tito very clearly painted himself (and probably others) into a clear corner the other day though. If it comes out that they definitively knew anything about Callaway's behavior toward women in the organization, they'll be gone.

I really hope that doesn't end up being the case.

Guys, feel free to go at it, but you've got to refrain from dragging terms like "social justice crusades" into it, or recommending "antiracist books", because we all know where that goes. Formal warnings have been issued for that.

Address the Tribe, not whatever broader societal issues may be firing you up.

I'm currently in the waiting room of the hospital waiting for my wife to come out of testing. Reception sucks, I obviously have a larger priority, so please try not to say shit that pulls me into here today.

Thanks in advance.

ETA:. I also want to thank guys for not leaping on the comments about social justice and "how to be an anti-racist.". Could have gotten out of hand but you guys dodn't take that bait, so thank you.

I think it is worth talking about, and I think there is something even bigger to talk about. Between all of the arguing over if there is evidence or not and the value of the word 'fuck'(it's my second favorite word), no one is actually talking about the larger issue here: MLB apparently knew about at least some of this, if not the same amount that the CLE FO did.

I think you’re willingly burying your head in the sand.

“tabloid-worthy”?
“Half truths at best and probably mostly hearsay and BS”?

I know nothing about the people who wrote this story, but I’m willing to give their journalistic integrity the benefit of the doubt. After all, their editors at The Athletic clearly trust it. Why aren’t you?

This is the biggest story in baseball right now, and it directly affects our favorite team. It’s very odd to see “can we move on” after a single day.

This blatant denial reads a lot like the things Astros fans were saying 18 months ago.
Burying my head in the sand would require ignoring some proof. You don't have that so far in this story and stating "I wonder how much the Cleveland FO knew/ignored" is not proof. It's suggestive at best to this point.

The Angels better be careful as well, because if they wrongfully terminate Callaway then they're setting themselves up for a lawsuit.

Q, I hope your wife is OK. Puts shit like this into perspective.

Thanks. More tests tomorrow. It's something serious but we're not yet sure what.
