2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
His shooting is a weakness. But his rebounding, in the context of his team situation, isn't a big concern to me. FSU's bigs, Koprivica, Gray, and Osborne, are all exceptional rebounders...there's just not much work left to do on the glass after those guys have had their share.

Yeah. I think rebounding isn't a concern at all with him. His team situation limits it but it is obvious he's a capable rebounder.

In 5 of his 18 games he's had at least 6 rebounds. He had 7 against UNC and Brooks / Bacot / Sharpe isn't exactly a trio that is easy to clean glass against.

His total counting stats on the glass are probably just role / teammate based more than anything.

I agree, but I always feel like this implies the existence of a prospect who will be *less* effective offensively with more space, and I have yet to see evidence of any such prospect :chuckle:

With more space, are there prospect types who you just don't want to have the temptation to dribble? J.R. Smith? :chuckle:

Oh my god...I hate guys who catch the ball on the 3-point line with space, dribble into the space, and take a long contested 2. Some guys do seem to play better when they have a defender in their face than when they're wide open.

I also think Jalen Johnson or Franz Wagner would look really nice in quite a few lineups for us.

Both of these guys can see the court well, move the ball, and defend. Either would be a good fit.

How does Barnes fit with the Cavs? don't you think we need some shooting?

I would like to get more involved in the draft discusison, but when I see Scottie Barnes as a top pick based on what I've seen, I guess I don't know a damn thing about analyzing talent, or basketball in general.

I mean, there are plenty of different perspectives on any given prospect. Check out Sam Vecenie’s work for an alternative perspective on the draft class, compare to people on here, consider your own experience, and take it from there

After a rough start, Jalen Green is up to almost 3 apg with just 2.8 TO while averaging 1.6 steals

Over 55% inside the arc, 82% at the line, and 35% from the NBA 3PT line

One concern with Green is that his on/off splits are remarkably bad so far. Ignite is -96 in 450 minutes with him on the court, and +4 in 224 minutes with him on the bench. This is pretty much all happening on defense, where Ignite has been 12 points per 100 possessions worse with Green on the court. I think his offensive ceiling is high enough that he could be a star despite sub-par defense, but at that point his projected NBA role starts to look pretty similar to Sexton's, which isn't really what the Cavs need.

I don't think being a bad defender in your first pro season necessarily means you project as a bad defender.

Look at Issac Okoro, he's been a bad defender this year for the most part, and that's supposed to be one of his strengths. It's tough being 18/19/20 and going from playing against guys your own age to grown men.

So I'm not fully convinced of this observation yet, gotta watch a lot more OK State games, but what do you guys think of the theory that Cade isn't limited by athleticism so much as he's got a pretty bad, high dribble? I noticed on a lot of the recent games where I've watched him, it seems like he doesn't have much of a problem getting to his spots (in the paint and pulling up/stepping back for jumpers), but at the same time he's good for multiple times a game where he just loses the ball, sometimes just carelessly before he even attacks.
