2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@The Human Q-Tip
prayers & positive thoughts heading towards you & your family.

please update and clue us in when you can with what you feel is appropriate. I/We are not looking to pry but we are an electronic family. Issues impacting one can impact the rest of us & many of this electronic family want to be helpful/ supportive when / where we can.

Keep in mind: The two of you are not alone in anything

I will, and thank you. Not sure when we're going to know for certain -- I suppose after a biopsy. And I really appreciated guys in here keeping in civil, too. Not sure what else is out there, but you guys have really created a great Tribe forum here.

It sounds like to me, there is evidence but that being stated, consensual isn't something that is legally wrong at the end of the day. It is morally wrong, but not something you would get fired over normally.

Also sounds like to me Callaway is a womanizer, who likes attention and is full of himself. His knowledge about pitching and whatnot is good but his attitude about things can be morally bad in societal views.

So if I am making an educated guess, it sounds like the consensual act, was known by the Indians and Callaway did receive some type of punishment for it, but since it wasn't illegal or anything like that, it never went any farther than that. Then the other stuff he did, never really were more than rumors to the top of the Indians rankings since it never got through the proper channels and without the top rankers actually having proof they didn't do anything about it. If that is true, then the peeps at the top aren't at fault in a sense because it never got to them, plus dealing with public figures, you get a lot of rumors and whatnot so you will need more than he said, she said type of things to reprimand someone.

At the end of the day, someone is going to get in trouble for this and likely it will be anyone in the PR side of this situation who never passed the info up. If MLB cannot prove the FO didn't know more than the he said, she said rumors, then they cannot really do anything about the situation honestly.

Burying my head in the sand would require ignoring some proof. You don't have that so far in this story and stating "I wonder how much the Cleveland FO knew/ignored" is not proof. It's suggestive at best to this point.

The Angels better be careful as well, because if they wrongfully terminate Callaway then they're setting themselves up for a lawsuit.

Calloway has a contract, so all he'd really be able to get is whatever he's due under that.

Paul Dolan has been quoted regarding the Callaway mess.. he essential stated that the Team and the Culture the team promotes needs to be better.. non-specific & authentic statement by Paul Dolan..

I would recommend reading the entire article for those that are able, but see a few bits below....

Indians owner Paul Dolan told team employees in an email Friday that the club did not provide the “culture and processes necessary” for those impacted by the sexually inappropriate behavior of former pitching coach Mickey Callaway to report their experiences to the team.

“This is deeply troubling to me,” Dolan said. “It is clear that we have not done enough to build the inclusive culture we strive to create.”

Dolan said the team received reports that “a man was alleging contact between Mickey Callaway and his wife over a two-year period,” but that based on the team’s “review of the facts,” their legal and HR teams, as well as the team’s outside counsel, determined the relationship was consensual and “not a workplace issue.”

Dolan told employees in the email the team will refrain from discussing Callaway’s behavior with employees until the completion of Major League Baseball’s investigation of Callaway is complete. He remains suspended from his position as pitching coach for the Angels.

In the email, Dolan emphasized the team will strive to create a better culture.
“But it is not our words or our intent that matter; it is our actions,” Dolan said. “And we must let our actions – over the short and long-term – reflect our commitment to this important goal.”

We should create a fan bracket to improve that corporate culture as well, add to the list of next year's rollouts.

Hmm. I'd rather have Hamilton over Gamel... Hopefully he will be informed next.

Interesting that the reporters spoke to the woman Callaway had the affair with but never asked her if it was consensual (or did ask her and left it out of the story). They just say she's upset the Indians never reached out to her about it.

Is there room for Johnson, Gamel, and Zimmer? Maybe Johnson starts in AAA and they keep Gamel until he's ready.

If Luplow is ready and Naylor is RF due to Bradley 1B, they 3 bench guys plus Hedges are Chang, Luplow and Amed. If One of these 3 start or IR for Luplow, it’s a battle between Johnson, Mercado, Zimmer, Clement and then Gamel for last spot.

Is Chang out of options? If not I would put him in that same mix for the last 2 spots. But he should finally make it.

He still has a minor league option remaining, but there's little logic in having both he and Amed Rosario on the 40 man roster by the end of camp. I would expect one of them to be dealt before Opening Day.
