Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’ll take the “over“ 631 OPS for both Jose and Naylor...

Based on what I saw down the stretch last season, me too my dude.

Jose Ramirez age 22 season: 219/291/340/631

I’m not expecting anything from anyone, but we’re all about to find out.
Hey that 22 year old turned around and hit 312/363/462/825 as a 23 yr old so maybe these other guys can do the same. At a year or more older of course. May all of them find that kind of success.

Two adages come to mind in the Bradley-Bauers competition.

'Hope springs eternal.'

It applies to more to Bradley than Bauers for most fans. Most view Bauers as a worst case scenario.

'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.'

In Bradley fans see 35 homers. Others, including me, see 180 Ks. It would take all 35 of those homers to give him any kind of value.

Of the three major projection services, only ZIPS sees him as the starter. The other two dont see him playing in even 20 games. ZIPS has him at 535 PAs...26 HR...182 K...0.3 fWAR.

In Bauers some fans see an OBP machine that plays plus defense at first. Others see total offensive ineptitude.

ZIPS sees him with about the same amount of PAs...a lot of meh production...and an 0.2 fWAR.

The other two see the OBP, and in half the PAs, about 0.3 fWAR.

Jeff Zimmerman, in commentary on our 1B situation, summed up my thinking on it. To summarize his thinking, I will put it in one pithy question...

Why the hell is Cleveland messing around with these two guys, when they have Naylor?

Bradley/Bauers will be given an equal chance. No clear #1 guy so PT in ST should be fairly split down the middle early on.

Regardless who wins, I think Naylor is the 1B vs LHP.

So it appears Bradley has won the 1B competition.
However, I keep hearing that the Indians would hate to let Jake Bauers go because he has no options left. That would mean admitting the Yandy Diaz trade was a flop.
I wonder if they might start playing Bauers in the OF as a way of keeping him on the team. The prolonged absence by Luplow might open up a spot.
On the other hand, if they DFA"d Bauers, there's no guarantee another team would pick him up.

I mean clearly Bradley has been more impressive so far in camp, but there is still 2 weeks left and they want Bauers to succeed. So I don't know if I would go as far to state that Bradley has won anything just yet. I do agree that it looks like 1B is his to lose though. That power is so damned attractive and could really help to lengthen this line up.

Just found this from Tito from today.

“That can be one train of thought. The other one is Jake Bauers is out of options, so if we’re going by your premise, we need to find out. So, that’s where we’re at,” manager Terry Francona when asked if it was time to find out about first base prospect Bobby Bradley."

Are Bradley and/or Bauers that bad against LHP? This is why I wanted them to pick someone like CJ Cron up who signed a minor league deal with the Rockies for the league minimum I believe.

As Bimbo posted up thread and I’ve been suggesting all winter/spring, I believe Naylor will play 1B vs. lefties. That makes Luplow (when healthy) the right handed platoon for Bauers or Bradley. Chang repping at 1B gives them insurance for Luplow. That’s why there wasn’t a need for a right handed pairing at 1B.

Clearly you are one of the folks that have confidence in Naylor. Right, wrong, or indifferent I'm not in that boat. Doesn't matter, because I agree that Naylor will be at 1B against LHP unless whoever wins the 1B job can demonstrate that they don't have a split issue.

I am actually wondering if Chang will get some at bats vs lefties at 1B if he is our utility guy. He has been getting time over there so I feel like it could be a possibility.

Would not surprise me.

Keep in mind I said what I said on February 24th before a single game was played...
