2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Mobley is the player most likely to be a star out of this draft. He's like a bigger version of Chris Bosh.

I think it's a good comparison, but why do you say "bigger"? Best I can tell he's 7'0" in shoes (probably 6'10.5" or 6'11" in socks), with a 7'4" or 7'5" wingspan, a 9'0" standing reach, and 215 pounds. Bosh measured 6'10.25" in socks, 7'3.5" wingspan, 9'1" reach, and 225 pounds. It's amazing how similar they are, actually....on my draft rater, Bosh grades out 0.1 points better on offense, and 0.2 better on defense.

So is Bosh a player that wins you chips in today's nba, as the number 1 guy? Coz obviously he's the picture perfect center for the present day, but I still think he'd be more of a complimentary elite role player/second banana finisher and not someone you give the ball to when it matters the most and you need creation. Siakam situation I guess.

I really like Mobley and him/Bosh with one or two quick penetrating guards would be dynamite imo (something you can win with), but he's not your typical creator.

Or maybe he could have a prime Dirk like impact? Coz that would be cool.

100% agree. This is why on one hand I say I like Mobley, but on the other hand feel a bit uneasy anointing him the clear #1 guy in this draft. I don't really think he's on the level of previous "clear #1" guys.

Well, even by your predicted measurements, he’s bigger :chuckle:

Still, I’m expecting him to be close to 7’ barefoot with a 7’5 wingspan.

To be fair though, if he had strong self creating ability too next to his other, just so damn complete skillset, he'd be one of the best prospects ever.

Still my favorite in this draft, but I have to say compared to the start of the season I'm a little lower on this years crop. Each top guy now has clear weaknesses. Still an awesome awesome draft, but it's not as completely bonkers as I thought back then.

Those are just the numbers that pop up in a google search...if he’s thought to be bigger than that, I didn’t realize it. If those numbers are accurate then you could say Mobley’s sliiiightly longer and sliiightly skinnier than Bosh, but as player comparisons go, it’s unusual to see players so close together in every area.

Ran numbers for Juzang and Timme. Juzang projects pretty similarly to Kispert, basically a replacement-level shooting specialist wing. Timme looks quite a bit better; wouldn't surprise me at all if he's a solid rotation guy in the NBA.

EDIT: Jaime Jaquez may actually be UCLA's best NBA prospect thanks to his well-rounded game. Comes out around +0, similar to Timme.

Giddey put up another huge statline earlier today with 14 points, 11 boards, and 8 assists. He's also 21/49 from 3 in his last 12 games after going 2/20 in his first 7 games, pushing his season percentage up to a respectable 33%. The gap between his profile this year and Ball's profile last year continues to shrink.

EDIT:

I like the taller Bosh comparison, but put some respect on his name! One of the premier big men in the last 20 years. If Bosh was entering the league now, he would have been developed as a three-point shooter and an absolutely lethal weapon in the modern NBA.

Mobley has the upside to serve as a hub for a team offensively, something that only a handful of bigs are currently able to do effectively (Sabonis, Jokic, Embiid, KAT, Bam). He's so skilled, so unselfish, high BBIQ, and can play inside/outside. Add to that his rim protection and awesome footwork / lateral quickness for a 7-footer to switch defensively, and yea, this guy is going to be a two-way stud & franchise player.

He's the guy IMO.

This is my first game really keeping an eye on him, and Jaquez certainly passes the eye test. Legit NBA-level athlete, plays with a lot of energy, and has some shooting/passing skills. I'd consider him in the early second if not sooner. Why isn't he talked about more?

Kind of seeing what I would be worried about at the NBA level with Suggs’ offense. He really needs to get comfortable shooting. He’s just getting sagged off of and then immediately bodied on his first dribble. He’s gotta be able to shoot over someone from 3, to get the defense that half step further out. He managed to score once, even though his drive was cut off but I would imagine half court offense is going to look like this for him until he can be a willing shooter from deep.
