Game Thread | 2020-21 Season | Game #50 | Cavs @ Spurs | April 5, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Whole team gets to feel good about itself after that one.

Everyone looked like a star tonight.

Only the second win with an margin over twenty points this year(other was against Philly without Embiid early in the year) but this was by far the most dominant, easy game for us this season. Really nice to see. Looking forward to most likely adding an athletic wing type in the draft(Kuminga, Barnes, Cunningham, Johnson) and continuing to let these young guys develop.

Beyond playstyle and talent, personality wise, these guys are not Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennet, Sergei Karasev types. We haven’t had the lottery luck that we had in 2011-2014 but the drafting has been better overall. No I am not saying there is a Kyrie talent on this team or that there weren't some other directions we could have gone(SGA, Haliburton , etc) but overall, I feel better about the direction of things in 2020-2021 season than I did in the 2012-2013 season.

That was a lot of easy stuff at the end there but Hartenstein really can pass the ball.

I don't know if there's much else to his game most of the time, but he can do that.
He scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds but yes all he can do is pass

i like isaiah. good back up big potential. but not gonna die for him in this forum, hahahah

Literally out of nowhere.

Playing w/o the ball and knowing how to get open is a lost art in the NBA and basketball in general.

Having good players who know how to do it and want to do it can honestly change the course of your team instantly.

If sexton becomes willing to do this every night then it completely changes the outlook and how he and Garland can coexist.

He looked just like this against Miami too. But they lost the game by 15 so no one really noticed but man. This is a different player.
i noticed that too in the miami game. and he was even toying with oladipo at one point. for me, this is when sexton has arrived. he's now a weapon instead of a ball hog.

Wow, didn't see that coming. It's been forever since the Cavs were on the winning side of 4th quarter garbage time. Very strange. And this was on the road against a Western Conference team with a winning record and no Jarrett Allen or Larry Nance Jr. Impressive!

The Cavs had 29 assists against only 6 turnovers. You can win games with numbers like that. Not to mention shooting 52.3% from the field and 85.2% from the line. And who was that #10 guy? He looks kind of like another guard we drafted with the #5 pick a while back named Garland except he plays a lot better.

Garland with 37 points, 7 assists, and 1 turnover in 30 minutes. Unbelievable. After getting 29 against the Spurs last time he should demand a trade to the Western Conference.

Hartenstein with 16 pts, 12 boards, and 3 assists while going 7-for-8 from the field and his only miss was a 3-pointer in garbage time. Wow! This kid is only 22 and has very little NBA experience, but I like his effort and his game. He could develop into a solid contributor off the bench.

This team has been transformed with the return of Love, Delly, and Prince and the acquisition of Hartenstein. Prince was 14/7/2 and a +31 in 26 minutes, meaning the Cavs were outscored by 7 when he was down. IMO he's playing himself into consideration as a starting small forward. He's better than Cedi and Windler by far, and probably Okoro, too, although Isaac is coming on.

The Cavs have some players on their bench who are making a statement that they deserve minutes every night. It's going to be interesting when Allen, Nance, and Windler are healthy and join the 8-man rotation JBB used tonight.

It was great to see the Cavs not let Keldon Johnson abuse them like last time. He had a quiet 13 points and 10 boards. White was 4-for-16.

Delly was a +19 in 17 minutes. Things just seem to go well when he's in the game. His 3-point shot looks ugly, however. He would have been better off sticking with the form he was using when he shot 40% on 3's instead of changing it. What he's doing now is pretty bad. He missed the rim by a mile on an uncontested 3 tonight.

@Rich @avs2000 That a got a tad bit too personal so I deleted. Even for our "gloves off" game threads.

You guys brought more fight than the Spurs did tonight. Way to enjoy the win fellas

I told you fellas that Hartenstein is a keeper.
Hartenstein is 22 years old and has played a total of 849 minutes in his NBA career. Collin Sexton has played almost twice that many minutes in 43 games this season.

My point is that this kid has barely gotten his feet wet in the NBA. With Allen out he's getting the chance to play some significant minutes for the first time and he's showing what he can do. He's already played one-third as many minutes with the Cavs in four games as he did in 30 games with Denver.

Getting a chance to play 22.5 minutes and run with the big dogs rather than getting a few garbage time minutes here and there is going to accelerate his development. He's an excellent passer for a big man, he rebounds well, and if he can perfect that little push shot from five feet we saw last night he'll score 10 points a night off the bench. He kind of reminds me of Andy Varajao in his style of play - not real smooth or explosive but he plays with a non-stop engine, crashes the offensive glass, and has a couple of shots he can use effectively. He's much bigger than Andy, though.

“He has good size and athleticism,” one NBA general manager said of Hartenstein. “He has a lot of upside. He is a good future prospect. He has a chance to be a contributing NBA player. People are looking at him late first, early second [round].” (prior to 2017 NBA draft)

He played a couple years of pro ball in Europe because his dad wanted him to play against men instead of dominating at the U.S. college because he was 7'0" and also so he could learn to handle the ball and play outside as well as close to the rim. He really has not had much high level basketball experience from what I can tell.

Like I'm sure we all do, I love seeing the Cavs having a good game like this. Was happy to see them get more than 120 points in what seems like forever, and especially to see Garland have a great game. Not enough can be said about Delly and Love coming back. Delly allows the Cavs to calm it down in the line up, and Love does so much with ball movement not to mention being a guy that you can't ignore on offense. Prince coming back and playing solid is great too.

I like Hartenstein as a backup center, and I can't wait until Nance and Allen come back.

I'm not giving up on Sexland. I really want the Cavs to get a solid player on the wing more than anything else. Or if another guard enters the fray, it's gotta be someone who can play like Garland but taller. LOL. Lottery better not screw us.
