Daytona 500

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Today happens to be the anniversary of the death of Dale Earnhardt. His death resulted in some safety rules and equipment being put in place. Ryan Newman is likely alive today because of those rules and equipment.
I guessing here, but I suspect Newman has multiple fractures on his left side, arm/wrist, leg, maybe ribs.

Not a fan of NASCAR, but Newman is a fellow Boilermaker and raced in our Grand Prix, he is the only one I root for because of this.

That said my fear at this point is some limb was so badly damaged that he might lose a limb....I hope I am wrong, but atleast he is alive to be there for his wife and kids. Scary accident for sure.

Rocketman might need to change his nickname to Iron Man.

Although I do wonder if they strategically put his daughters in the picture to cover his legs. OTOH, I don't think he'd be standing if he had any broken bones.

What were the ratings like Monday? I know it would hurt attendance but it sounds like a lot of people, including me, watched Monday who never watched before because it was the only thing on and it was a Monday.

2021 Daytona race about to start. Michael Jordan as team owner debut with Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin their drivers. Hamlin and Jordan are long time buddies and Hamlin is partial team owner along with Jordan.
Also Nascar changing it up more with 7 road course events this year vs the old two.

I don’t know much about NASCAR, but I’ve been seeing commercials for weeks about it and Bubba Wallace is front and center in all of them.
Is he even “good”, as in finishing in the top 10 standing wise or is he just a figure head for them?

Yeah I'm just a casual fan of Nascar; too many oval tracks for me but the road courses will create some new interest. It's racing, I can only take it in measured doses.
I was just interested in the Jordan angle of it all. If him and Bubba get a win it'll be good for all. Regarding Bubba Wallace, I think he's been in the big so called Cup series for about 5 years, hasn't won yet. Appears to be an upcoming talent though. Takes a lot of luck to win.

Seeing the Cup cars around Road America should be really good.

Not nascar, but the Indy 500 could be pretty racy this year with the cool temps. Lots of talent scattered throughout the field.

One of the most talent filled Indy 500's I've seen. Helio, Dixon, Rossi, Kanaan, defending champ Soto and so much more. Should be an awesome race.

It's such a good era right now for Indycar, especially on road courses. The fields are stacked.

I'll be watching at least some of the Indy 500. It's a big time racing event.
Side note, went with the wife to Mid Ohio for the recent IMSA racing. I find that one of my favorite forms of racing as the cars are something closer to some of the cars we could buy (in some classes) and I just prefer the road course events.
