2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The problem wasn't in not protecting Santander, it's the complete inability of the team to draft/sign and develop an outfielder (not you Tyler Naquin) for going on over two decades. The team finally started discovering and developing starters in the last few years after a desert only occupied by apparitions of Josh Tomlin and Daniel Salazar, so maybe the drought in the OF might end.
If the Indians can't draft outfielders they can always trade for them or sign them in free agency, like Eddie Rosario, although that's a one-year fix. But they traded for Naylor. They picked up Harold Ramirez off the street. They will probably convert Amed Rosario to center field once Freeman or Arias is ready to take over at SS.

That's not a bad outfield - Harold in left, Amed in center, and Naylor in right. That could be our every day outfield next year although Bradley Zimmer, Jordan Luplow, or Oscar Mercado may force themselves into the conversation. Daniel Johnson is still in the picture as well and they may be converting Nolan Jones to the outfield.

Luplow is still around and I assume will get back to crushing left-handed pitching when he's healthy. When you're in the same division as the White Sox a guy like Luplow is handy to have around. We also traded for Luplow.

Athletic guys can be moved to the outfield like they did with Chisenhall and could do with Amed Rosario and Nolan Jones. They put Owen Miller in left field for a game or two in Columbus if I'm not mistaken.

The Indians have come a long way in the last couple of years. No more Leonys Martin, Greg Allen, Carlos Gonzalez, Rajai Davis, or Brandon Guyer. A lot depends on how Naylor develops, whether they decide to keep Harold around, and whether Zimmer, Mercado, or Amed can take over and provide great defense and acceptable offense in center. Jones, Luplow, and Johnson may force themselves into the plans. I think the outfield situation is much improved and getting better.

Out of all those names, Zimmer is the only one we drafted as an outfielder. Jones was drafted as an infielder and the others were trades or free agents.

Capping things with "drafted/signed" sure is a way to make an argument disingenuous, as if traded players like Choo and Brantley were finished products when they came to Cleveland.

Have the Indians been good at developing position players, much less outfielders, recently? Hell no.

For the last 20+ years though? Come on.
Disingenuous is ignoring their record for, yes, almost 20 years of being able to draft and develop pitchers, 1B and OFers (you said 20+, not me). I'm sorry it offends you to just admit this but it's been the orgs biggest failure in the Shapiro Era to draft and develop and ultimately what led to the talent gaps. It is what separates them from the other two low revenue competitors the As and Rays. The numbers speak for themselves.

Is the rebirth of Quentin Holmes legit?

First bomb last night, a night after this.

@BimboColesHair whats the org. view on him?

If there was a season last year he’d probably be in AAA at some point this year.

So last year with no season for most minor leaguers, Andy Tracy was made available as a consultant for anyone who wanted to use him throughout the year, while also instructing guys at the alternate site. Some guys would do virtual sessions with him or send him video, some guys had him fly out to where they were at. I know Holmes was one of the guys who used him the most.

Pretty obvious now how much he changed his swing, but he’s starting to grow into his body and hasn’t lost any speed at the same time. He’s still viewed like Benson is (both are still viewed highly), high helium guys with a lot of tools, just waiting for them to put it all together and they’re still young. He just needs to stay healthy. He’s so twitchy that he can’t stay healthy.

And he’s an assignment of mine at some point this year, so that’ll be fun.

Nice to see Holmes having some success. Seems like we drafted him 10 years ago, surprised to see he's only 21! Here's hoping!
He was drafted in June 2017 & is eligible for the R5 draft this December (unless added to the 40 man roster)..

Best of luck to anyone who wants to have him on their MLB roster for the entirety of 2022

Is your point of contention really that you said slightly under 20 years instead of slightly over 20 years? :conf (11):

I'm also not sure how you can say we're unable to draft and develop pitchers, but I guess to each their own. If you want to be angry, be angry--just don't pretend you're making a valid argument.

Indians from what 2000-2007 only got I believe 2 players drafted in the 1st to 3rd rounds to the pros... They didn't draft well then at all in any area...

Afterwards though we started to see more success and honestly most of the 16 team was home grown/acquired early... So that was them developing players well... I mean if you look at their percentage of players drafted getting to the pros, it's pretty darn good, we just haven't been able to hit on an allstar positions player since Lindor and JRam... Thats been the issue...

I mean, the body is so different from when I saw him last.

Much more developed, seems like he’s bringing the swing with it.

Byron Buxton vibes in the IF single in the video I posted. He might not be Buxton fast, but the dude is very tooled up and it’s obvious.

After such a rough start to his career it's nice to see him playing so well in a SSS.

Not trying to take anything away from the guy, but 1 or 2 of those hits were poor/low effort plays by that SS, Kelvin Melean.

@thestatman the post @Criznit had, was his opinion of the players, not sitting there summarizing experts since experts have Oscar rated way higher than Brooks and he stated Brooks was the most likely to succeed...

Who gives a shit?

If you want to have a take, it better be a whole lot more than just being contrarian because you don't like people who are more educated or more experienced than you in a certain field.

When people show you information, it sure would be nice if others put in a tenth of the effort to understand that information, compared to how much effort they spend ranting about how they hate anything they don't understand.

I dont give a fuck about who knows what about this or that. I said clearly that experts get shit wrong all the time. And they do. It's really that simple. That's my opinion on this subject; If you don't like my opinion. that's your problem.

Experts getting things wrong isn't an opinion--it's fact.

It's also fact that experts' opinions are valuable--they have knowledge, experience and access that others do not. I'm not saying they're always right, or we should defer to them--but we shouldn't also be immediately dismissive, or even worse--reactionary.

Although, I guess your "I dont give a fuck about who knows what about this or that" explains a lot...
