The cart is way in front of the horse at this point, right? I am a big fan of selectively giving your lottery pick starts in the right situations. But who is that guy? Until we know how raw the Cavs pick is going to be, I can't say if he should start or not.

I agree - I'm speaking less about what the new player earns/is capable of doing than what the hell we do with recent lottery picks potentially getting moved to the bench.

I think the "start the rookie" is part of the cavs tactics to develop young players.. I think they want to see if they will compete for the full NBA 30+ minutes night in night out, and see if they can physically take the pounding.. It also drives home to the rookie, how far he has to go to compete.. These guys are used to being the best player in the room.. When you realize you are expected to defend LeBron, I think that is a reality check. Successful players recognize thier weaknesses, and get to work.. I think that a lot of minutes in your rookie year ( with no significant imjury) is a strong vector in thier long term success..

This does seem to be their strategy and so far it appears to have paid off. Darius would have lead in rookie minutes despite being the "worst rookie" if not for missing games. Okoro did lead rookie minutes and Sexton got more minutes than the vets could stand lol.

High correlation between playing time early and success. Definitely a chicken or the egg question, but the Cavs have developed 3 guys and all 3 were looked on unfavorably at times.

I guess I don't see why one of our top 8 draft picks (Sexton, Garland, Okoro, or this year's pick) can't play off the bench. I also don’t see why, of the four, Sexton is the obvious choice.

It’s because Sexton doesn’t seem to make a positive impact on his teammates, which to me screams 6th man.

The eye test has been telling for many posters on here for a long time, but this hypothesis has recently been somewhat validated by the numbers that @Derek was able to pull.

Sexton is obvious as his game matches the super sub from the bench the most. He is least obvious because Sexton is the best player we have right now and while you might not start your 3rd or 4th best player, you should always start your 2 best players, and Sexton is #1 with Garland closing the gap (in a good way, because he is way improving too).

So its hard for me, but depending on who we might draft, Okoro might be the best choice to go to the bench.

Or we can get lucky, get #2, draft Mobley, start him with Allen, bench love and every good young player starts. Problem solved, lol

Anyone seeing how okoro can possibly do what terance mann did today? I see it.

Lmao, i was just think this game from mann is Okoro's ceiling....this is only one game, but Mann played 4 years in college and 2nd year pro, so 4 years older, but it wasnt till this year he could really shoot 3's.

I envision a big year for Okoro next season. He is a sponge and will understand what he needs to do in order to help himself and the team. I bet he watches the playoffs and soaks it all in. He has the tools to be a force as a slasher and a catch and shoot player.
