The World Cup is not in 2024 also, it's next year. So the US would need to make a massive jump to reach top 10 or top 5 status by then,

2026 would be more realistic and even then, top 5 will be hard to reach with the talent pool Europe and Brazil are able to tap.

I said I believe we'll be top-10 within three years, with an outside shot of joining the top 5.

I think it's silly to guess like this, but that top tier in three years likely looks something like Belgium/France/Brazil/England/Italy... and I don't think it's outrageous to see the US in the next group, pushing to take the spots of the English or the Italians if they falter.
 
France is my team but they've been playing like dogshit this entire tournament so far. The group of death turned out to be the group of trash. Not one team could put together more than one win, and the Hungary games were the most exciting.
