OLGA is waiting for you!

Re: the basketball stuff in my simplified view (blinded by Olga):

... Cavs should take Mobley (or, in a perfect world, Green, if he were to fall.) I think either are potentially incredible picks and worth the "gamble" @ #3.

Keep Sexton unless it is a genuine ROI (ie, not the Knicks shitpile). Deal with him at the deadline or in RFA next offseason if you must. Re-sign at good value if possible, even if we draft Green and he becomes our 6th man. Grow 'em from the draft on-up.

OLGA for Cavs GM

He doesn't owe Duke anything much in the same way Duke doesn't owe him playing time. Ironically, the perception that he's a quitter is now hurting his draft stock somewhat, although I can't see him falling out of the lottery.

Why is it ironic? He quit IMG, then quit Duke. Why wouldn't that hurt his draft stock? Teams are justifiably questioning his love of the game and/or maturity.

One of the things great players all share is a love of the game, and the love of competition for its own sake. So he wouldn't be playing because he owed Duke anything. He'd be playing just because he wants to play basketball.

I cannot imagine a guy who truly loved just playing the game of basketball making choices that resulted in him playing only 22 games in two years. Something is missing.

Justifiable for sure

I'm not drafting him to a rebuilding team without strong leadership already established in the locker room and in the organization

He's the kind of guy who if drafted to Popovich at 12, Indiana and Carlisle at 13 or Warriors at 14, by year 3, everyone is looking at him like MPJ breaking through year 3 for Denver as a steal.

For me, with what I saw, he's a mix of young Tobias Harris and not engaged Josh Smith. If that makes sense.

I believe he had a 30pt 20rb game or pretty close during ACC play, so he has it in him when Coach K felt like tolerating him.

High risk high reward, if he's drafted to the right situation

Haven't heard anyone mention it as a negative, but Giddey also left his team rather abruptly with 5 games left to play. Just a couple weeks prior he'd said “I want to be here right until the last game with the team, I’ve never been one to quit on a team, whether we are winning or losing. I will be here for the rest of the season.” and then he had a horrible game and immediately quit on his team :chuckle:

How do you say "Slug" in Aussie?

It's crazy that so many of these guys, who are paid to do this, just flat out make shit up and do zero research.

Coach, I dont get it. Like, the research is the FUN part. I've been breaking down film since I played and it's the easiest part of this unhealthy relationship I have with this sport.

I've got calls all morning for work but in the background on mute, I've got Undisputed started and I'm prepared to start that series you recommended with the AAU program right after. I've also got 2 full game files for my niece who is getting ready to be the starting center for Hiedelberg's girls team next year for her Junior year. She's on her way to Nashville tomorrow and is asking me to break down her two best games and I'm happy to do it.

How do these guys get paid for this and not love it?

I really enjoy Vecenie & Matt Pennie's Draft Theory podcast. It's clear these guys do a ton of research and know what they are talking about.

If anything, I think their bias tends to lie with players who were highly touted throughout their prep career. It would be hard for them not to be since they are involved with that circuit. It's the opposite of @Nathan S and @I'mWithDan's spreadsheets, since we only have one year of data on most of these guys at the NCAA level, their findings will naturally be biased AGAINST players who might have shown certain skills before they got on campus. It can't possibly capture the background of the player and how they got where they are right now.

The truth is probably somewhere in between. I value both perspectives and the work that goes into them.
