2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No he doesn’t
A 24 year old and who has been in the minors for a good amount should be ready to start an mlb career. It's not like you are rushing some 20 or 19 year old straight out of hs. At some point you have to give these guys a chance to show wether they are going to be major league every day players or not.
Also they need time to develop too. Getting minor league experience is necessary but at some point you have to take off the training wheels. Also it's not like he is trying to break into the 95 Indians here, plenty of space for guys to come up over the next few years who show they are ready.

Hmm....

Unless this elbow thing with JRam is serious.. the chances Nolan Jones is brought up to the parent club during the 2021 season are pretty slim... The cup of coffee thing, not withstanding.. Service time manipulation will render his chances of starting the 2022 season at the corner of Ontario and Carnegie nil.. nothing... nada..

That's how the CLEFO rolls.. and it has worked to their advantage.. The Indians and MLB do not share their revenues equally.. so the Indians and CLEFO must take the appropriate steps to minimize their financial burden while maintaining control of their highly talented prospects..

This means 40 days to two months into the season go by before a raw prospect is promoted..

If you don’t understand how prospects are brought along, just say so :chuckle:

I would bet he is not on the opening day roster next year, but he does have a chance to be.

He’s right on schedule.

Yeah that is something the mlb should consider changing. Having top prospects who are ready to start their mlb careers on rosters and in the lineup can only help fan raise fan intetest.

I think Nolan Jones has about a 15-20% chance to break camp with the ML team in 2022. Key factors will be, Jose being healthy and/or still employed in Cleveland and how many outfielders we castoff between now and as we approach ST in 2022.

Odds are I think he starts in AAA and spends the fall, winter etc. working out almost exclusively in the OF.

He probably won't be due to service time and mlb rules, which is something they should change. I have been watching baseball since the mid 80s so I don't appreciate the assumption I don't know how guys are brought up.
Every prospect is different but Jones at some point is going to have to show wether he is the real deal or not. I don't see waiting another year until he is 25 in 2023 as needed unless he is injured, or drastically regresses . Also this is not currently a championship level team with an amazing lineup. There is room for guys to show if they belong or not.

it is one thing if a guy is clearly not ready mentally or skill wise. But next year it's hard to say Jones would be in that category.

The assumption was based on a few posts that sounded ill-informed. Sorry if I offended.

Nolan Jones is not on any clock to show he’s the real deal. He’s on track to debut in the next year.

For you to say he HAS to be on the opening day roster next year insinuates that time is running out, and that’s just not the reality of the situation.

Not offended. Maybe I am too high on Jones and he is not as good of a prospect as I thought. His numbers may not be great this year, but there was no minor league baseball last year, so I assumed that played a part in his slow start. I just think giving a guy like Jones a chance in the of ( assuming that is where they are putting him) is better then getting a cheap JAG FA outfielder. If the organization is no longer that high on him then I probably jumped the gun.

They’re very high on Jones. So am I.

So, getting three assumptions out of the way:

1) If a player plays the full season at the MLB level, that's a year of service time.
2) If a player plays only part of the season, he doesn't accrue a year of service time.
3) A player's youngest years are usually their worst

Based on these, because Nolan Jones is a good player, why would we willingly give up the time we have him on a cheap pay scale? If he breaks camp with the major league roster, that's one year off his service time clock. If he comes up later in the year, that's free time we have him for.

Give me a good player for 6.8 years instead of 6, especially when the only time you're missing is the worst time out of that era of his career.

We don't have a set OF next season, so to rule out Jones in at least a platoon role will be idiocy...

He still has to beat out guys though for a position next season... Bobby Bradley at the moment has 1B, and Johnson on paper I would think is in front of Jones in RF... So he had a couple guys to beat to make the roster in various places. He won't be given a position which is fine with me...

@Out of the Rafters at the Q

Now we don't know how the bargaining agreement will change things. Since the players want to try and change the service time clock, we don't know how much that could effect Jones' timeline and other top prospects timelines... I actually personally feel players need at least half a season if not a full season at AAA normally, so some of the issues are overblown for anyone outside of a special few prospects...

Until the CBA changes, I'm going to operate under the current CBA rules.

If those change, then my stance will change accordingly.

Nolan Jones was part of the alt site group last season. While he didn't get a minor league season of development, he got more time & focused instruction then a lot of other players (like Rocchio & Planez both stuck outside the country)..
