2021 Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You mean like Sexton?

I wasn't actually thinking of him in particular because I don't see potentially exchanging him for a "head case" being on the table anyway. If anything, I was thinking of a choice between a guy with good intangibles but needing to work on a skill or two over, for example, a KPJ or Jalen Johnson type.

Something I could see as possible is the Cavs taking Mobley at 3, Barnes being taken at 5, then the Cavs trading Mobley for Barnes and 8. Whether that could actually happen obviously depends on 1) the Cavs really liking enough guys that they consider Barnes and 8 a good deal, and 2) Orlando being obsessed with Mobley. I have no idea if either of those things is true.
To me, the drop in value from #3 to #5 is so steep, that if I were to even entertain such a trade (which I personally would probably not), I not only need to get exactly who I want at #5, but I also need to get exactly who I want at #8. If I'm passing on a prospect like Mobley, I can't justify leaving to chance who will be available at #8.

What makes this tricky as hell, is that Orlando isn't going to pick a guy for us at #5 without being certain that the deal is going through, which would be impossible to know until the 7th pick is turned in. Only way this would even have a chance, is if the player we would want at #5 lines up with the player that they want at #5.

I think a lot of it is the Raptors and Magic FO's pining for Mobley. This leads to fantasies and other delusions. This is all made possible by the Pistons screaming Caaaaaddddeee during climax

Can't see Orlando being interested in giving up both 5 and 8 for 3, anyway.

I wouldn't even do it for 5 and 8. If they offer 5, 8 and next year's first unprotected, I do the deal. They have to make a ridiculously impossible offer for me to pull the trigger if I am the guy making the pick.

And they won't offer this. If Mobley is there, the pick is a no brainer. If Houston picks Mobley and Green is there, the pick is a no brainer. If somehow Mobley and Green go 1 and 2 with Cunningham left, the pick is a no brainer. Unless the Cavs are just plain dumb, they are in an incredible position at 3. Any one of these Top 3 would be #1 in almost any other year.

How do we know the Cavs don't like Barnes? I would NOT trade down to 5 but Barnes is solidly at #5 on my board just behind the consensus top 4.
The Consensus top 5 is:

1) Cunningham
2) Green
3) Mobley
4) Suggs
5) Barnes

I would not be shocked if any of those players were the best player to come out of the draft.

So here's a question I have for some of you guys that have been doing your research on this draft class. Sexton has been linked to teams that may be willing to give up their 1st rounder such as OKC (#6, #16), GSW (#7, #14), NOP (#10), NYK (#19, #21). I highly doubt we could get a top ten pick for Collin, but come draft day, are there any particular prospects that have a realistic shot of falling to #14, #16, #19, or #21 that, if available, you'd aggressively pursue a trade? I left this out of the Trade Ideas thread because I wanted to focus more on the actual prospects that I should keep an eye on, rather than worrying about making salaries match or arguing about whether or not a deal makes sense for the other team.

EDIT: feel free to add any potential teams that I may have left out!

I would not trade Sexton for a pick that was outside of the top 10, but I admit to being a big Sexton fan who believes he has not hit his max yet.

Trey Murphy.

I just think he's an ideal fit for what this team needs (3 & D wing). I'm not saying we should trade Sexton for him; but I believe that yes, there will be prospects in the last half of the first round available who would help the team immensely.

Definitely a glaring need for us, but I was hoping to get names of guys that are potential top ten picks that could slip to the mid-teens. Murphy is not expected to be a lottery pick right?

Thought Murphy was actually rising up some draft boards. Might be wrong.

Do you guys follow that ClevTA guy on twitter? He's always saying that Mobley isn't worth it and the Cavs should trade down. ‍♂️

Edit: That was supposed to be a shrug, but I'm leaving it.
Yes, and he's a football guy so not putting much stock in it but he's smart.

I really like the idea of Mobley but the whole positional value argument is by far the strongest for taking Suggs/Green instead.

Never want to be the team that drafts RB top 10...

Eh, if he didn't have ball handling playmaking.......but just watching him, too many just make him out as a center.....not really.
garland
okoro
3/d wing
Mobley
Allen
In that regard, I could see Mobley taking.over as lead distributor.
