2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Personally I would select him at one. The game has changed where many teams value wings more. If this was a couple years ago, I believe he would be number one.
I like Mobley's size & skillset. It remains to be seen if he can add weight to his frame and how he will fit with Jarrett Allen.

I love it, playing chess while everyone else playing checkers.

P.S. I guess if you were the Pistons GM, you would have taken that SGA+6 for Cade deal and ran away?

If that was the only deal on the table, then yeah. But really my goal would be to come out of this draft with Sengun and Barnes, or at a minimum Sengun and one of my other tier-2 guys. I'd be a little scared to pay SGA the max because he only looked like a max guy for half a season.

I would probably roughly end up here. With tiers, they are sorted by PDIFF but it isn't necessarily a rank order.

I don't know that I take Sengun #2 overall but after Mobley, I think there is at least a conversation.

These numbers will differ marginally, as I finally bugged my friend for athletic composite data.

It doesn't drastically change anyone, it is just used in the formula as more of a tie breaker for similar producers.

So I would see....

T1 - Mobley, clear #1 to me
T2 - Picks 2-6
T3 - Pick 7
T4 - 8-13
T5 - 14-24
T6 - 25-30
T7 - Fringe 1st

I tend to give up around 34 or so guys, in terms of a tier exercise.

Of the rest, guys who are interesting.....

Donta Scott
Moses Wright
Max Abmas
Marcus Zegarowski
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Taevion Kinsey

Some of these guys withdrew, I think...Josiah-Jordan James and Mathurin in particular would've been reasonably high on my board otherwise.

Once we got a top 3 pick, I feel like I gave up looking at anyone outside the top guys. :chuckle:

Relative to JJJ being gone, I think Hurt is probably the most interesting guy left, so I would swap him in.

I missed Thor at first glance on your board. He is a guy that stands out to me as well on the wing.

Really curious to see where he goes.

What does your stuff say about DeJon Jarreau? I moved him up to #40 just now when I made a final pass...hadn't really taken a close look at him previously, but he seems like he could be a good roleplayer PG for the Cavs.

Bless his heart

"better shooter" shot 62% from the line and made 0.3 more 3's per game

Strange he doesn't mention his defense. Bagley had such bad effort and instincts that Duke was completely incapable of playing man defense.

Go back and check the threads, I'm not sure I would have even take Bagley at #8 that year.

Just realised that mobleys high hips whilst being a negative on the block probably explain why he has so much potential on the perimeter. Might be a blessing not a curse

I feel like the logical devil's advocate comparison from that draft would be Bamba.
That would have been better. I was high on Bamba and still refuse to believe that he can't be a high-level contributor (Anthony Randolph, too @RchfldCavRaised).

Still, their tape would immediately separate the two prospects, and even statistically, I would think the passing numbers would create a decent gap between the two in your model.

Lima's problem is he's using other idiots to prove his point. :chuckle:

Bagley didn't have a bad profile at all......but he was farrrrrrr more one dimensional.

His NBA value or profile really depended entirely on your view of how his offense would translate at the NBA level.

Bagley is both a more impactful prospect overall and a more balanced one.

He shows strongly just across the board.....more like star bigs like Embiid and Davis did.

Bagley was a better volume scorer in college but pretty much everything else was worse.

In terms of big man busts, the big red flag is GS/ADJ......when you see that, it gets a lot scarier for top 10 guys.

Top 10 Big men who don't provide non scoring value tend to bust out at really high rates.

Not exactly an inspiring list that Bagley landed on.

Here's the list of possession era bigs who had positive non scoring numbers and 1.2 PDIFF or better.

Not a bad list eh? :chuckle:

The only other player that just missed this list was JJJ.

I just try to frame Mobley here in all honesty. If the Cavs land him at 3, we should all be ecstatic.

Is it a guarantee he will be good? No.

But the type of prospect he is just screams that he will, more times than not, be a really good NBA player.
