I’ve pounded the drum about how a buyout doesn’t benefit us at all, but it sure sounds like it’s a very real possibility.

"I didn't think Kevin Love was going to play. I wasn't even sure he had much left to play," Colangelo said. "He reached out to us and said he was in shape and said he felt he owed us. And on the basis of that, we're looking at someone with international experience who at one time was a heck of a rebounder and could still shoot the ball. You know, being like a 12th man on a roster.

"Well, it didn't work out. He wasn't in shape. And he was way behind as it turned out. So you move on. Call it a mistake. Call it giving someone an opportunity. Someone who had equity with us."

Sounds like Colangelo is deflecting in torching Love for wasting a spot. Love screwed them out of getting Randle allegedly but that seems unfair to a guy who would’ve barely played anyway. The Trae Young part makes his entire interview null and void. He won’t admit to the politics and the strained relationship with his former coach Lloyd Pierce being the reason.

I also thought it was funny how he mentioned the American bigs that were available were all trash. Yes, a ton of players got injured or weren’t healthy, but RCF could’ve collectively put together a better team out of all the available players.

Coach Pop needing to rectify his record for Team USA is also interesting. Pop only took the job if Jerry stayed on after pondering retirement in 2016.

This guy shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the team, whether that means a trade, buyout, or paying him for the next 2 years to stay home.
Agreed. I don't want Love anywhere near Mobley. He's poisoned the water enough here and he can take his lazy, travel-loving butt into retirement, for all I care. The sooner they can buy him out, the better. I think acquiring Rubio may have sealed Love's fate here. Larry Nance is a far better veteran mentor than Love ever was.

LOL at the idea that Old Man Colangelo‘s comments will affect Love’s trade value. Those of us that stuck it out and watched our team through to the end knew Love has nothing left. If that old man, Pops, Kerr & Company didn’t do their due diligence then shame on them. The NBA GMs know Love stinks because he’s not healthy and can barely run. They could give a shit what Gramps has to say.

Man, KLove must've really pissed someone off. NBA heads don't usually scorch players like this

Kevin really fucked this up....

He may have thought this was a way to build his stock, prove his worth, and get in better shape during the process. The guys that were on the team were mostly just off their seasons, so they were in shape while Kevin ate doughnuts and collected checks. I'm sure he thought he did what was necessary to get in shape, but it was not enough, and Jerry called him on it.

The good news....

I am just about positive Kevin would have had the same mentality coming into preseason camp...feeling like he was in shape and he was good to go. Well, his ego have better been knocked down a few, because it is public knowledge now. Peers all know he is a fraud - especially those on the court with him in Vegas. So maybe, just maybe, he'll internalize this and come back better, both physically and mentally. If he doesn't, put a fork in him.

Buy in or ship out, punk.

I dunno, I don't get the impression that Love did anything so egregious that he deserves to be called out by name like that, and I don't see the point in kicking him like that when he's down. Colangelo sounds like a whiny bitch in that article. He also complains about unnamed players not being able to play, whether it was their teams not wanting them to play, or the players themselves backing out.

How difficult is Jerry's job, anyway? I'm sure it's not as simple as it seems, but is anything that he's done during his time there really that noteworthy? I get that he's in tough spot because we're always expected to win, but what exactly is it that he does?

Very clearly, Love lied to Colangelo by telling him that he was in shape & ready to go. I think that's the point. No one likes being lied to...

Especially when Colangelo is going to get blamed if the USA doesn't win gold.

I'm still not convinced that Love blatantly lied to Colangelo. Kevin may have THOUGHT he was ready to go. What motivation would Kevin have to lie about his readiness just to go out and make a complete fool of himself and torpedo what little chance he had of being traded elsewhere?

Jerry also bitched about players that said they'd play but then when the time came, said they weren't in anymore. That's a worse lie, IMO, and they deserve to be called out by name more than Kevin does.
