Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavs are actually in a bad spot to sign vets. They have a starting lineup full of lottery picks and Allen and really only bench minutes available. Hard to sell a vet on that on a bad team
Yep makes no sense for a good vet who can still get a 2 for 20 contract from a fringe contender would have ever accepted a deal from a org that is going into the season where they will be starting their core 5 none of whom have ever played significant minutes in the playoffs. The odds any good vets want to be here are 1 in 100 imo.
The Cavs need to keep the course if they want to really see what they got. The problem is it might take another couple seasons

If you can get spot min on a contender vs a bottom dweller as money is drying up...

Yeah If I am a vet rotation player on a contender, like Green appears to still be , he is not only interested in winning he demands it if his usage decreases. He also got more than we offered imo. I think his usage decreasing in favor of player development on any rebuild roster, is not appealing at all and only for those real desperate. It is easily is the story why the Cavs got nobody good, hell nobody at all, that has the proven veteran label in free agency.
I am not surprised. They need to go after lesser proven but hungry young players rejected by other orgs like Sirvydis or a little more proven Justin Jackson type players. This roster although finally gaining some identity is not getting good free agents that make the team better immediately, beside via trades, and even then you have to be careful who you are bringing in. Hoping he doesn't become toxic and to that point hope Rubio doesn't go there.

Sirvydis and Jackson suck so bad compared to Green. Philly simply added the extra mil per year to retain him since he was their own FA...

I'm not sure what upside you see in picking up young rejects anyways. Best case they ball out on a one year deal and we have to pay them after. No contract value to be had or upside for the roster moving forward.

I mean its interesting that maybe the Cavs had a shot and Philly had to beat it. The lack of playing time and visibility on this team is not going to be attractive to anyone but fringe guys. Seeking out a Vince Carter type of vet might make sense.

Completely understand anyone arguing the likelihood of a useful veteran agreeing to play for us at this point in time.

Completely disagree with anyone arguing the merits of trying.

Wasn't saying they shouldn't try. I am just not surprised and don't think it has as much to do with "woe is Cleveland" as much as who is going to want to play off the bench for a SL under 24?

I figured someone like Otto Porter might have been an option initially to try to rehab value the way Shaun Livingston did when he played for the Cavs years ago

Livingston didn't actually pick Cleveland. He was a waiver claim after Nets cut him. And if I remember right we could have kept him in town but let him walk in order to pay Jarrett Jack.

Pretty much the same point I was making. It doesn't matter if Sirvydis sucks this year, it only matters if he is worth developing and reliable and hungry. There are no patch the wound vets that make any difference imo and so a meh younger sf with potential is far more useful than one on the wrong side of 30 that would be going through the motions for a paycheck yuck

Because they were and remain good players that need to find the right system that's why. Sirvydis and to some extent Jackson are easily upgrades offensively to an injured Windler or a non shooting wing lol Coming from situations where teams are heavily invested in higher profile players they are stuck with like Sekou at the same position is not a reflection on them so much as a reflection on org mismanagement. Detroit probably wants to bring Sirvydis back letting him play for their SL roster, they just had to release him for monetary reasons.
You don't have to agree they have upside, Jackson doesn't really have much but in the right system can be useful. The transferability with Sirvydis hasn't happened so there is that but he is a damn good in your face assassin sleeper type player that if given the run which he has not seen in the NBA yet could be the next duncan robinson.
On this spacing depleted roster he is well worth the flier even if he never plays a single meaningful minute this season

They cut Sirvydis, so maybe he sucks, but he shot 2 shots a game and played less than 7 min. I don't know any 20 year old that would thrive in that situation. He was a flamethrower in lithuania and he can get his shot off fast.

Yeah I thought he played well. He was much better than Jack lol. I heard the same thing that he wanted to just go somewhere else.

Yeah. It was my mistake. He went to Brooklyn after leaving Cavs. We claimed him off waivers from Wizards. I know he took less money then Jack got though. If we had offered him anything close to what we gave Jack maybe he would have taken it.
