2021 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is all so crazy to me. I haven't been following but it's all moving so fast. I can just see rich-as-fuck millionaires in Miami just being like, let's bring back The U, and just buy all the good players. Give them everything an 18 year old future NFL player would want.
Columbus has a lot of rich boosters too but this is all right out of a movie for me. I have my popcorn and am ready to watch.

I agree that CFB was great when every loss mattered. It's going to take some adjusting to that, but it'll still be fun. I think the big change is that a scholarship just isn't enough anymore. This is going to change so much in a hurry. You'll start to see agents offering financial incentives to middle schoolers!

Money used to win championships.

Miami players getting cash just means they’re a richer, still shitty ACC team.

NIL doesn’t build a winner unless you have culture in the program.

I know what you are saying, and time will tell. I just think $ and the allure of Miami as a city and CFB program will be strong. The culture will have to be developed but that place has the rest of it taken care of for many future pros.

Couldn’t we consider NIL a success if it levels the playing field to the point of further parity across CFP?

As it is, the country could use programs not named Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma to regain some status around the country. USC is another.

Seems clear they will align politically to keep the SEC from rigging things in Playoff expansion, NIL, etc. but the scheduling changes are what I really care about as a fan.

Expansion is fun to think about but messy and impractical in reality. Without anybody moving, we could get rank-based matchups annually between the 3 conferences to boost schedule inventories, like a football version of the ACC Challenge. The SEC doesn't have a monopoly on marquee matchups, so it's passed time the rest of the sport make these moves which will be of even greater value in an larger Playoff field.

Yeah, this is a direct shot at SEC/ESPN attempting to rig the sport even more than they already have.

FOX better pony the fuck up for CFP rights when they come up in a few years.

Might have to sub just to read this, this seems pretty cool on the surface.
It's a good read.

On one hand it's fascinating...on the other hand this entire situation makes me want to puke, all this politicizing/manipulation/corruption of what has been my favorite sport for my whole life.

Not that those things didn't exist at some level before, but it's getting out of control when TV providers are openly controlling conference memberships, rankings, playoff births, etc.

Very glad to see FOX and the non-SEC schools fighting back, though.
