Is Love dead yet?

538 says yes he's toast, but could rebound to be a moderately productive role player next year on min salary--

The thing that benefits a contender? Wow, didn't see it coming from ESPN. I'm blindsided.

I did laugh at Love’s comp being Swen Nater.

I don't know man, everyone's definition of productive is different, but I actually think Love is truly, in the meaningful sense, done.

Could he come in for a contender in a game and get hot for a few minutes and make a difference? Yea.

But in terms of what I'd personally define as a "meaningful contributor" I think he's all the way done. The Olympics sealed it. His body is broken and he, personally, doesn't have the willpower to go the extra mile in the off-season.

I don't think he'd be a normal rotation player on a contender. Like I don't think he really cracks the lineup of the Clippers or the Nets or the Suns or the Lakers.

He'd bea dude who'd play every other game for 8 to 10 minutes at best, depending on the matchup.

But he's not giving them 20 minutes off the bench every single night, and i suspect in many post-season matchups he'd be getting DNPs.

There's value in the Cavs letting him try off the bench. If he tries and fails, then they didn't stop him from making a comeback, and when the parties sit down to discuss where they go from there, it's a more reasonable discussion.

“Nater’s not even a good hatchet man. I saw him throwing elbows without being discreet about it.”

- Stormin’ Norman after an exhibition game where he confronted Nater after the latter was gooning on new C Artis Gilmore.

Unrelated to Love, does anyone have Jeff Gillooly’s cell # by chance?

Wont help, an injured Love still sticks on our roster to collect his check. Want proof, see Love and our roster the last 2 years.

Did you know that Kevin Love suffers from the same problem as the Angels Mike Trout?
Trout has missed pretty much the whole season because of soreness in his calf. That's the same issue Love has. That's odd because I had not heard of anyone suffering such a prolonged issue with a sore calf.

I'm not a doctor, but maybe the training staffs of the two organizations should communicate and compare notes.

Love's clearly been milking his calf injury. But Trout's extended absence seems fishy.

I think TT is still not back from his calf injury. Just my own opinion

It's quite common to have a lingering calf strain and calf strains are much more common if you have had one already, so often what seems like a sore calf that has lasted a long time is really just a recurring calf strain. The risks of straining your calf also rise with age. There are plenty of other professional athletes who are or have battled long-term calf strain problems and they are often aging vets. For example, Javier Hernandez ("Chicharito"), a Mexican soccer star who plays for the LA Galaxy, missed half the season last year and then it reoccurred this year (after scoring goals at a torrid pace in the first half of the season) and he has missed over two months, including setbacks that caused him to have to restart his rehab process.

There is also something called phantom calf pain, which is really lower back pain that you feel in your calf. Many big men in basketball suffer lower back pain from the years of pounding on the court, plus the constant travel etc, and it's certainly possible that Love is suffering some of that too.

Bottom line, it's actually quite believable that Love is having trouble getting back to full health, regardless of whether he is fully dedicated to doing so or not.

I think he could crack the rotation for some of those teams listed in that veteran bigman/situational player kind of role. I think you are right that he is done as a truly impactful player.

For the veteran minimum, possibly half a season of Kevin Love with his standard good passing, 3pt shooting, and rebounding. I would take that if I were a contender even it's on a limited basis.

Trout is paid huge, a great competitor, and seems happy. Fishy, like medically? Like they’re not reporting something?

I still go back all the way to when Sexton took down the Nets that night. Love was celebrating with a teammate on his back. Walking around with a teammate on his back.

Who with a calf injury does that? It must be eight months ago by now and he’d already been out for a few months at that point. That’s strange.
