The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The one thing, for me, that I did like about d3 more than d2 was the ability to actually get an end-game build for your character.

Now maybe for some that makes the game feel cheaper, I dunno.

But in all my time playing diablo 2, and I played quite a bit I saw, literally, zero high end runes, for instance. Not one. I never came even slightly close to completing an end-game full set for any class. The drops were just so, so, so, so hard to come by.

Yep, game was ass until Reaper of Souls, which turned it around entirely.

Who knows what 4 will be, but hope it's good.

This might be a stupid question, but once you've beaten the story with a character, what is the purpose of continuing to play? Especially once you've reached max level...why does your equipment matter at that point? For playing co-op? For playing on higher difficulties?

Just genuinely curious about what the endgame is for the Diablo's.

Like most ARPGs, Diablo 3 has a carrot on a stick loot loop in endgame, where you run randomized dungeons called rifts. As they get more difficult, you’ll need a more finely tuned build/gear setup, to tackle the next highest difficulty so on and so forth. Of course it can be done cooperatively as well.

There are a lot of mechanics at play, and some other activities called bounties (generally used to gather crafting materials and stuff), but that’s the gist. It’s a loot grind and power fantasy. If that doesn’t sound appealing… I don’t blame you. But for some reason people just absolutely love that style of gameplay, and I happen to be one of them. :chuckle:

Yeah, my only complaint is D3 seems too set focused in the endgame. I hope D4 isn’t like that. Everything is focused around getting your set and then dominating once you have it.

Yeah...grinding for gear just for the sake of grinding for gear seems pointless to me :chuckle:

Bit more to it than that, but yeah. Not everyone is into the gameplay loop. Honestly I didn’t used to be either. Of course it truly is pointless- everything you do in video games is pointless, in a way- in that it’s just a mechanism to get you to tackle the next difficulty tier. Think of it as you haven’t truly “beaten” the game until you’re clearing at top difficulty, and then it’s really the same loop as any other game if you think about it.

I’m not sure there is a more tangible reward than that that they can offer. Getting my necromancer to the top tier difficulty a few seasons back was extremely rewarding to me, especially since I struggled with him at times and getting his build perfected. There’s so many skill and gear and talent synergies that are in play, that no explanation here will really do it justice. I’d just get to endgame and dive in and see if you dig it before writing it off. It very possibly may not be for you, but again, I had literally the same opinion before I tried my first loot-driven game.

I’d boot it up and play with you but after like 5000 hours I think my D3 days are over lol

Yea the way they make it refreshing is adding ladders and seasons.

So when a new season drops you know it's a race to who can hit level cap first, who can clear a level X rift first, and then who has cleared the highest level rift of your class and so forth.

Diablo 2 was about the loot only, because it was so, so, so much harder to get the loot. If you ever actually DID manage to get a full build, you'd have put an insane, insane amount of time into the game just to do that.

I will say Diablo 2 DOES have some uber bosses if you wanna still feel like you're trying to do something more than get gear. THey're extremely hard, require very good gear, and quite a bit of grinding to unlock.

Was playing warhammer 2 with the grimhammer mod.

BUddy, the turn 150 Chaos Invasion is utterly over the top with that mod.

Roughly 8 T5 Beastman armies spawned in the middle of my territory. HAd no clue that was gonna happen and just got wiped out to the point that I gave up on the game lol.

I'll be ready for that next time. But even still, that many t5 beastmen armies is so hard to play against because they ambush from attack and their basic stance is ambush.

You see the Cathay trailer? Looks good. Shame it got delayed.

2022 gonna be jam packed boys! And I’ll struggle to have time to play anything with the little one incoming. :chuckle:

You know I really wanted to give the new Life is Strange a shot. Then I realized it's a $60 game and I laughed at that idea.

Finally upgrading to an Xbox Series X for the release of Halo. Used All Access to snag one, so will bet set for games/gold for the next 2 years as well...

Sucks that I couldn't get just the system at retail price, but better than trying to buy 3rd party for 1k+ I've seen some of them going for.

I'm just hoping my launch One will last until I can catch one for retail price. Credit is too shot for all access, and I will not pay markup lol.
